Sukta 1.19
ये नाकस्याधि रोचने दिवि देवास आसते । मरुद्भिरग्न आ गहि ॥
yé nākásyā́dhi rocané diví devā́sa ā́sate | marúdbhir agne ā́ gáhi ||
Wahai Agni, datanglah bersama para Marut—kuasa-kuasa bercahaya yang bersemayam di langit, pada alam kesedaran yang bersinar, di atas sinar yang memahkotai puncak (nāka).
Agni is invoked to come together with the Maruts, the gods who are seated in heaven on the shining radiance at the summit (nāka).
The seeker calls the divine Will (Agni) to descend and act in company with the Marut host—storm-powers of dynamic life-energy that become luminous when they take their seat in the ‘heaven’ of awakened mind. The phrase ‘on the radiance above nāka’ suggests the supramental-like crest where consciousness is most clear; from there the impulsions of force can be governed by light rather than by desire.
Spiritual progress requires not only aspiration (Agni) but also the disciplined harnessing of life-forces (Maruts) under a higher illumination; energies become beneficent when seated in the light of the higher mind.
Invocation, Marutvat-Agni, Ascent to luminous heaven, Establishment of divine powers
Kāṇvas: a lineage noted for hymns of effective invocation and inner-sacrificial psychology, often coordinating Agni with other powers (Indra/Maruts).
Medhātithi (‘guest of intelligence/medhā’) typifies the seer who receives the gods as inward guests: the mantra is an invitation for higher forces to take their seat in the mind’s luminous summit and govern the life-energies.
Mediator between earth and heaven; carrier of offerings; awakener of the gods; organizer of the sacrifice.
Divine Will and aspiring flame that summons, purifies, and coordinates the life-forces (Maruts) under illumination.
Agni–Marut invocation in soma-related sequences and general āhavanīya invocations; used to invite the assisting deities.

24
3 pādas × 8 syllables
Bright, compact, forward-driving cadence suited to invocation.
Creates quick ascent and alertness; gathers scattered energies into a single call and ‘brings near’ the invoked power.
Invocatory verse used in offerings where Agni is called as Hotṛ together with Marut-gana; applicable to Soma rites as an accompaniment to welcoming the divine powers to the seat (āsana) of the yajña.
At openings/approaches of offerings where Agni is asked to arrive with supporting powers (Maruts).
Āvāhana (invitation) and accompaniment of oblations into fire.
Before meditation or work: invoke steady will (Agni) plus disciplined energy (Maruts) seated in clarity (rocana).
Key terms: nāká- ‘summit/zenith’ (Vedic: highest point; supports an inner sense of the apex of awareness). rocaná- from √ruc ‘shine, be bright’ → ‘luminous realm/radiance’. devá- from √div ‘shine; also play’ → ‘shining power’ (not merely anthropomorphic deity). āsate: √ās ‘sit’ in middle/present → ‘are seated/established’. marút- traditionally storm-gods; philologically linked to √mar/√mṛ ‘to shine/gleam’ in Vedic usage and functionally to dynamic, purifying movement; here instrumental plural marud-bhiḥ ‘together with the Maruts’. agní- from √ag ‘drive’ / √añj ‘ignite’ debated; Vedic function: ignition of aspiration and the forward-leading will.
R̥ta (right order as a luminous seating/establishment of powers), Satyam (truth as the stable ‘seat’ of the gods in consciousness), Bṛhat (the vast heaven div as wideness of mind)
Maruts seated in the ‘rocana’ imply energies aligned to Ṛta rather than chaotic impulse.
The ‘shining realm’ indicates truth-illumination that legitimizes action.
Descent of higher light into the lower field through the mediator Agni.
Proto-Vedāntic / Aurobindonian psychological exegesis (planes of consciousness: earth–midregion–heaven).
dawn-to-morning (suggested by ‘rocana’ luminosity)
Fire = will; storm = life-force; heaven-radiance = illumined mind where energies become luminous and orderly.
Invite the inner flame of will to rise to the ‘rocana’ (clear mind) and enlist life-energies as allies rather than distractions.
anahata (fire of aspiration) to ajna (illumined governance)
Moderate ujjayi or steady nāḍī-śodhana to seat energy in clarity before action.
Collected, bright, upward-oriented (sattvic dynamism).
Begin with a brief inner offering: exhale restlessness, inhale clarity; mentally repeat ‘agne ā gahi’ to feel will descending into the day’s actions with disciplined force.
Vedic svaras as marked in Saṃhitā: maintain udātta on accented syllables (e.g., nā́kasya, ā́dhi), with surrounding anudātta and occasional svarita per recitation tradition.
Keep the main lift on the udātta-marked vowels; avoid flattening the cadence in ‘marúdbhir agne ā́ gahi’.
nā-ka-syā-dhi (clear conjunct ‘syā’ + ‘dhi’), ro-ca-ne (soft ‘c’ as ‘ch’ in transliteration context = ‘c’ palatal), marud-bhiḥ (audible ‘d’ before ‘bh’), agne (short ‘e’), ā gahi (long ‘ā’, hard ‘g’)
Bright, invoking, slightly upward-inflected; crisp consonants for Gāyatrī compactness.
