रामदर्शनार्थं दारानयनम् · The Queens Summoned; Rama’s Leave
Taking and Dasaratha’s Collapse
Spoken by RamaSetting: Ayodhya (royal context implied)
The kingdom abdicated by me with all its people, its wealth and foodgrains may be bestowed on Bharata.
Legitimate power is secondary to truth and duty; renunciation can preserve social order more surely than contesting rights.
Cultivates vairāgya and niṣkāma-bhāva: offering one’s ‘kingdom’ (possessions/ego) to dharma; useful for daily sankalpa of non-attachment.
Tyāga as inner freedom: relinquishing ownership (mamatā) over 'earth/kingdom' aligns with the Vedāntic move from kartṛtva-bhoktṛtva to sākṣitva.
Īśāvāsya Upaniṣad 1: 'tena tyaktena bhuñjīthā'—enjoy/protect through renunciation; also the motif of non-possessiveness over 'earth'.
Valmiki Ramayana 2.34.44-45 (explicit forest-vow and obedience); Valmiki Ramayana 2.20-2.23 (Rama’s acceptance of exile; renunciation theme); Rāmacaritamānasa Ayodhyākāṇḍa (Rama’s tyāga and Bharata’s claimlessness)
Īśāvāsya Upaniṣad (tyāga and non-possessiveness); Rajadharma discussions in Mahābhārata Śānti Parva (abdication/renunciation motifs)
Ayodhyākāṇḍa: Daśaratha’s boons to Kaikeyī as causal frame (implied); Bharata’s later refusal and Rama’s sandals episode (future internal echo)
Anuṣṭup (śloka)
Solemn
Madhyama-gambhīra (steady mid-register, restrained cadence)
Dharma here is non-attachment and orderly succession: Rāma relinquishes power to preserve social stability and uphold the pledged arrangement.
Rāma states that he has renounced the kingdom and requests that it be formally bestowed upon Bharata.
Rāma’s detachment from sovereignty and his concern for political and social order.
