Droṇa’s sweeping assault and the Abhimanyu–Jayadratha close-quarters episode (द्रोणस्य भीषणव्यचरितम् / सौभद्र-जयद्रथ-संनिपातः)
सिंहनादरवांश्षक्रुर्बाहुशब्दांश्व कृत्स्नश: । तच्च सर्व यथान्यायं धर्मराजेन भारत
saṃhanādaravāṃś cakrur bāhuśabdāṃś ca kṛtsnaśaḥ | tac ca sarvaṃ yathānyāyaṃ dharmarājena bhārata āptair āśu parijñātaṃ bhāradvājacikīrṣitam ||
ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ರಾಜನೇ! ಯುಧಿಷ್ಠಿರನನ್ನು ಬಂಧಿಸುವ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಕೇಳಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಸೇನೆ ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಸಿಂಹನಾದ ಮಾಡಿತು; ಭುಜಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದು ಭಾರೀ ಘೋಷವನ್ನೂ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸಿತು. ಆದರೆ ಭಾರತನಂದನನೇ! ಧರ್ಮರಾಜ ಯುಧಿಷ್ಠಿರನು ತನ್ನ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸಾರ್ಹ ಗುಪ್ತಚರರ ಮೂಲಕ ಯಥಾವಿಧಿಯಾಗಿ ಶೀಘ್ರವೇ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡನು—ಭಾರದ್ವಾಜಪುತ್ರ ದ್ರೋಣನು ಏನು ಮಾಡಲು ಉದ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೋ ಅದನ್ನು।
