AV 6.3 ಒಂದು ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ “ಸ್ವ-ರಕ್ಷಣೆ” (ಆತ್ಮಗೋಪನಂ) ಮಂತ್ರಸಂಕಲನ; ಇದು ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳೆಲ್ಲಕ್ಕೂ ವ್ಯಾಪಿಸುವ ಕವಚವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಲು ವೇದೀಯ ರಕ್ಷಕರ ಒಕ್ಕೂಟವನ್ನು—ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಂಡೀಯ, ವಾಯುಮಂಡಲೀಯ, ಜಲೀಯ ಮತ್ತು ಯಜ್ಞಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ಶಕ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು—ಆಹ್ವಾನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇದರ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಕ್ರಮೇಣ ಸೇರುವ ಆಮಂತ್ರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೆ: ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ದೇವತೆ/ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು “ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ” (ಪಾತು/ಪಾಂತು) ಎಂದು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ; ಹೀಗೆ ಅಂಹಸ್ (ದುಃಖ, ಪಾಪ, ದುರ್ಭಾಗ್ಯ) ಹಾಗೂ ಕಾಣುವ/ಕಾಣದ ಹಾನಿಗಳ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಸುರಕ್ಷೆಯ ಪದರಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಪದರಗಳನ್ನು ಜೋಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

आत्मगोपनम्। पा॒तं न॑ इन्द्रापूष॒णादि॑तिः॒ पान्तु॑ म॒रुतः॑ । अपां॑ नपात् सिन्धवः स॒प्त पा॑तन॒ पातु॑ नो॒ विष्णु॑रु॒त द्यौः
ಆತ್ಮರಕ್ಷಣೆ: ಇಂದ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಪೂಷಣರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ; ಅದಿತಿ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ; ಮರುತರು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ. ಅಪಾಂ ನಪಾತ್ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ; ಏಳು ಸಿಂಧುಗಳು (ನದಿಗಳು), ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿರಿ! ವಿಷ್ಣು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ, ಮತ್ತು ದ್ಯೌಃ (ಆಕಾಶ) ಸಹ.

ದ್ಯಾವಾ-ಪೃಥಿವೀ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಅಭಿಷ್ಟಯೇ (ಸಹಾಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ) ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ; ಗ್ರಾವಾ (ಪೀಡನಕಲ್ಲು) ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ; ಸೋಮನು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಅಂಹಸಃ (ಕಷ್ಟ/ಪಾಪ)ದಿಂದ ಕಾಪಾಡಲಿ. ಶುಭಗಾ ದೇವಿ ಸರಸ್ವತೀ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ; ಅಗ್ನಿ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ—ಅವನ ಪಾಯವಃ (ರಕ್ಷಕರು) ಶಿವ (ಮಂಗಳಕರ)ರಾಗಿರುವವರು.
It means “self-guarding.” The hymn is framed as a protective act where the reciter asks many cosmic and ritual powers to form a shield around them.
