Sukta 7.68
Praise of rapid approach; strengthens the efficacy of invitation in Soma liturgy
illumination as wealth (vasu as inner riches), transcendence of layered planes (tiras rajas)
Crossing the rajas symbolizes moving from mixed, wavering forces into ordered truth-action aligned with ṛta.
Sūrya-wealth indicates the increase of truth-light in the mind.
Ascent and descent across worlds; mediation between planes enabling transformation.
Proto-Vedāntic / integral-psychological reading (Aurobindo/Kashyap style): gods as powers of consciousness, sacrifice as inner yoga.
Dawn / early morning transition
Transition from obscurity to illumination; swift inner movement carrying awareness beyond the mixed mental-vital zone.
Invoke swift inner aid to cross a turbulent middle state; visualize a luminous force moving through the subtle channels and bringing sun-like clarity.
Ājñā (illumination) and Anāhata (harmonizing aid)
Moderate nāḍī-śodhana for 5–7 rounds, then recite with a gentle pause after each pāda.
From restless transitional mind to clear, assisted aspiration.
Before recitation, set a single intention (‘bring the Sun’s riches into my mind’). While chanting, feel the ‘chariot’ as a current of light moving upward and forward through the inner sky (rajas), ending in a quiet brightness behind the forehead.
Use Vedic three-tone framework (udātta/anudātta/svarita) as per śākhā tradition; this verse is typically chanted with prominent udātta on key invocatory words (pra, ratho, aśvinā, asmabhyam, sūryāvasū).
Lift the voice on udātta syllables; let svarita glide downward; keep anudātta low and steady—especially across compound words like manojavā.
Maintain retroflex ṭ/ḍ/ṇ where applicable; in rajāṃsi keep nasalization clear (āṃ)., aśvinā: keep ś soft-palatal; avoid ‘ashvina’ with hard s., sūryāvasū: lengthen ū and ā distinctly; avoid collapsing vowels in sandhi., Keep ‘tiraḥ’ with visarga audible as a light aspiration before following consonant.
Clear, bright, forward-projected; feel ‘movement’ in the tone.
