Bharata in Kaikeyi’s apartments: revelation of Daśaratha’s death and Rāma’s exile
O my son, prince Rama attired in garments of bark along with Sita and followed by Lakshmana left for the great Dandaka forest.
Rāma’s acceptance of austere exile reflects dharma as obedience to rightful obligation and truthfulness to vows, even at personal cost.
Kausalyā informs Bharata that Rāma has departed for the Daṇḍaka forest in ascetic dress, with Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa.
Rāma’s self-restraint and duty-bound renunciation; Lakṣmaṇa’s loyalty and Sītā’s steadfast companionship are also implied.
