Sukta 6

Mantra 1

मन्द्रया सोम धारया वृषा पवस्व देवयुः । अव्यो वारेष्वस्मयुः ॥

O Soma, flow in a gladdening stream, a bull of force; purify thyself as one who seeks the Gods. In the woolen filters, yearning toward us, take form for our receiving.

Mantra 2

अभि त्यं मद्यं मदमिन्दविन्द्र इति क्षर । अभि वाजिनो अर्वतः ॥

Flow forth toward that intoxicating ecstasy of delight, O drop of Soma, ‘for Indra’—so do thou stream. Flow too toward the steeds of plenitude of force, toward the swift carriers of our victory.

Mantra 3

अभि त्यं पूर्व्यं मदं सुवानो अर्ष पवित्र आ । अभि वाजमुत श्रवः ॥

Flow toward that ancient ecstasy, O Soma, being pressed out; run into the purifier. Flow toward plenitude of force and toward the luminous fame that is the soul’s wide hearing of Truth.

Mantra 4

अनु द्रप्सास इन्दव आपो न प्रवतासरन् । पुनाना इन्द्रमाशत ॥

Following one another, the Soma-drops stream like waters down a slope. In their self-purifying movement they reach Indra—the luminous mind-force—so that the victorious power may awaken in us.

Mantra 5

यमत्यमिव वाजिनं मृजन्ति योषणो दश । वने क्रीळन्तमत्यविम् ॥

Him they cleanse like a swift steed of force—ten maidens at work—him who plays in the wood, the overpassing runner. So the Soma is polished by the powers of the rite until his luminous speed is revealed.

Mantra 6

तं गोभिर्वृषणं रसं मदाय देववीतये । सुतं भराय सं सृज ॥

That bull-like essence, pressed out, do thou gather together with the rays (gos) for ecstasy and for the Gods’ glad accepting. Unite it into a single stream for the bearing onward of the offering within us.

Mantra 7

देवो देवाय धारयेन्द्राय पवते सुतः । पयो यदस्य पीपयत् ॥

The god Soma, pressed out, flows in a stream for the god Indra, when his milk-like richness swells and nourishes him. Thus delight increases the power that breaks the inner resistance.

Mantra 8

आत्मा यज्ञस्य रंह्या सुष्वाणः पवते सुतः । प्रत्नं नि पाति काव्यम् ॥

As the very soul of the sacrifice, swift-moving, Soma—well pressed—flows purified. He guards and establishes the ancient inspired wisdom within, the perennial poetry of the seers.

Mantra 9

एवा पुनान इन्द्रयुर्मदं मदिष्ठ वीतये । गुहा चिद्दधिषे गिरः ॥

Thus, self-purifying, desiring Indra, thou bearest the most intense ecstasy for the divine enjoyment. Even in the secret cave thou settest the inspired words—so the hidden parts of the being begin to speak the Truth.
