Sukta 15

Mantra 1

वि पाजसा पृथुना शोशुचानो बाधस्व द्विषो रक्षसो अमीवाः । सुशर्मणो बृहतः शर्मणि स्यामग्नेरहं सुहवस्य प्रणीतौ ॥

Blazing with wide might, repel the haters, the rakṣasas, the forces of affliction. May we dwell in the protecting peace of the Vast; may I be in the leading guidance of Agni, the well-invoked.

Mantra 2

त्वं नो अस्या उषसो व्युष्टौ त्वं सूर उदिते बोधि गोपाः । जन्मेव नित्यं तनयं जुषस्व स्तोमं मे अग्ने तन्वा सुजात ॥

At the breaking forth of this Dawn, be for us the guardian; at the rising of the Sun, awaken as our protector. As a father delights in his child always, accept my hymn, O Agni, with thy whole being, O well-born Flame.

Mantra 3

त्वं नृचक्षा वृषभानु पूर्वीः कृष्णास्वग्ने अरुषो वि भाहि । वसो नेषि च पर्षि चात्यंहः कृधी नो राय उशिजो यविष्ठ ॥

You, O Agni, who seest through the human, follow the ancient paths; blaze out as the Ruddy One amid the blackness. O Vasu, lead us and carry us beyond all anguish; fashion for us the riches of the seeker, O youngest and most swift in the sacrifice.

Mantra 4

अषाळ्हो अग्ने वृषभो दिदीहि पुरो विश्वाः सौभगा संजिगीवान् । यज्ञस्य नेता प्रथमस्य पायोर्जातवेदो बृहतः सुप्रणीते ॥

Invincible, O Agni, bull of force, blaze forth; conquer for us all the fronts of felicity. As leader of the sacrifice, guardian of its first foundation, O Jātavedas, guide us well into the Vast.

Mantra 5

अच्छिद्रा शर्म जरितः पुरूणि देवाँ अच्छा दीद्यानः सुमेधाः । रथो न सस्निरभि वक्षि वाजमग्ने त्वं रोदसी नः सुमेके ॥

Unbroken shelters many, O singer; shining, with clear intelligence, go towards the gods. Like a chariot that runs its course, bear us to plenitude of force; O Agni, thou art for us the two worlds in a happy oneness.

Mantra 6

प्र पीपय वृषभ जिन्व वाजानग्ने त्वं रोदसी नः सुदोघे । देवेभिर्देव सुरुचा रुचानो मा नो मर्तस्य दुर्मतिः परि ष्ठात् ॥

Make us increase, O strong Bull; quicken the plenitudes of force. O Agni, thou makest the two worlds for us yield their good milk. O god shining with fair light among the gods, let not the evil thought of the mortal encompass us.

Mantra 7

इळामग्ने पुरुदंसं सनिं गोः शश्वत्तमं हवमानाय साध । स्यान्नः सूनुस्तनयो विजावाग्ने सा ते सुमतिर्भूत्वस्मे ॥

O Agni, accomplish for the caller Iḷā—rich in many works—an enduring gain of the Cow (the ray of light/knowledge). May there be for us a son, a child, victorious in birth; O Agni, may that be thy good will toward us.
