RV 10.125 is the celebrated Devī-sūkta in which Vāk (Speech) speaks in the first person as the all-pervading divine power that accompanies and upholds every god and cosmic function. The hymn proclaims that inspired word grants authority, makes one a ṛṣi or brahmā, and expands beyond heaven and earth, revealing Speech as the spiritual principle behind creation, knowledge, and sovereignty.

Mantra 1

अहं रुद्रेभिर्वसुभिश्चराम्यहमादित्यैरुत विश्वदेवैः । अहं मित्रावरुणोभा बिभर्म्यहमिन्द्राग्नी अहमश्विनोभा ॥

I move with the Rudras and the Vasus; I move with the Ādityas and with all the gods. I uphold both Mitra and Varuṇa; I uphold Indra and Agni; I uphold both the Aśvins.

Mantra 2

अहं सोममाहनसं बिभर्म्यहं त्वष्टारमुत पूषणं भगम् । अहं दधामि द्रविणं हविष्मते सुप्राव्ये यजमानाय सुन्वते ॥

I bear Soma the smiter (of obstacles); I bear Tvaṣṭṛ, and also Pūṣan and Bhaga. I place the treasure for the offerer—richly protective—for the sacrificer who presses Soma.

Mantra 3

अहं राष्ट्री संगमनी वसूनां चिकितुषी प्रथमा यज्ञियानाम् । तां मा देवा व्यदधुः पुरुत्रा भूरिस्थात्रां भूर्यावेशयन्तीम् ॥

I am the Sovereign Queen, the gatherer of treasures; I am the conscious-knower, first among those who are fit for the sacrifice. The gods have set me in many places—making me widely established, making me enter into many forms and beings.

Mantra 4

मया सो अन्नमत्ति यो विपश्यति यः प्राणिति य ईं शृणोत्युक्तम् । अमन्तवो मां त उप क्षियन्ति श्रुधि श्रुत श्रद्धिवं ते वदामि ॥

Through me he eats the true nourishment—who sees with the awakened vision, who breathes the life-force, who hears the spoken word. Those who do not know me dwell near me without possessing me. Hear, O hearer: I speak to you what is to be held with faith—an utterance that builds inner trust.

Mantra 5

अहमेव स्वयमिदं वदामि जुष्टं देवेभिरुत मानुषेभिः । यं कामये तंतमुग्रं कृणोमि तं ब्रह्माणं तमृषिं तं सुमेधाम् ॥

I, even I, speak this by my own power—welcomed by the gods and also by men. Whom I choose, that one I make mighty; him I shape into a brahmā, into a seer, into a clear-intelligence.

Mantra 6

अहं रुद्राय धनुरा तनोमि ब्रह्मद्विषे शरवे हन्तवा उ । अहं जनाय समदं कृणोम्यहं द्यावापृथिवी आ विवेश ॥

I stretch the bow for Rudra, to strike down with the arrow the hater of the sacred Word. I create the victorious ardor for the human being; I enter and inhabit Heaven and Earth.

Mantra 7

अहं सुवे पितरमस्य मूर्धन्मम योनिरप्स्वन्तः समुद्रे । ततो वि तिष्ठे भुवनानु विश्वोतामूं द्यां वर्ष्मणोप स्पृशामि ॥

I bring forth the Father upon the summit of this existence; my womb is in the waters, within the ocean-depth. From there I stand out and move through all the worlds; and with my body of vastness I touch that yonder heaven.

Mantra 8

अहमेव वात इव प्र वाम्यारभमाणा भुवनानि विश्वा । परो दिवा पर एना पृथिव्यैतावती महिना सं बभूव ॥

I move forth like the Wind, taking hold of all the worlds. Beyond heaven, beyond this earth—so vast I become by my greatness.
