Varaha Purana 17.14: Adhyaya 17, Shloka 14

King Prajāpāla’s Visit to Sage Mahātapā’s Hermitage and the Doctrinal Praise of Nārāyaṇa

FAQs

It reflects a common Purāṇic narrative motif: a ruler seeks guidance by approaching an āśrama, highlighting the cultural ideal of kingship tempered by consultation with learned ascetics.

No specific toponym is provided in this verse; it mentions a “vara-āśrama” (an excellent hermitage) without naming a particular site.

The verse foregrounds epistemic humility and ethical governance: the king approaches a brahmavid (knower of Brahman), implying that power is ideally guided by learning, restraint, and counsel.
