Sukta 1.94
Agni-invocation within Soma and Haviryajña contexts; suitable for kindling/strengthening the sacrificial fire and for prayers of protection in sadas (assembly).
Ṛta (right order) via ‘sam’ integration and ‘pramati’ right guidance, Tapas (inner heat) implicit in Agni as transformative power
Agni’s pramati in the assembly is the ordering intelligence of ṛta within collective and individual life.
Stoma as affirmation of truth; manīṣā aligns speech with satya.
Agni as knower of births—witness and organizer of emergent formations in consciousness.
Vedic psychology (Aurobindo/Kashyap): mantra as formative power; Agni as psychic guide.
Fire = inner will and discernment; chariot = integrated mind-force carrying aspiration; assembly = harmonized faculties.
‘Yoke’ speech and mind: let mantra become a chariot; feel Agni as the inner guide in the heart-flame.
anahata (psychic fire as friend)
Inhale: gather (sam mahemā); exhale: offer the formed thought (stoma) into the heart-flame; brief pause to feel guidance (pramati).
Collectedness (saṃhati) and protected inner poise.
Before chanting, sit upright and ‘assemble’ attention like yoking a chariot: body still, breath even, mind clear; then chant with deliberate articulation and finish with a silent trust in Agni’s pramati.
Follow Śākala accent marks: maintain clear udātta on indicated syllables such as,; keep anudātta steady between peaks.
Do not rush the long compounds (ātavedase); keep the caesura after ‘manīṣayā’ felt as a slight reset before the protective statement.
jātavedase: articulate ‘ve’ clearly; long ā in jā-, ratham iva: separate lightly (ra-tham i-va), avoid merging into ‘rathmiva’, pramatir: clear dental t (not retroflex), riṣāmā: retroflex ṣ; long ā in -mā
Warm, steady, protective; slightly more intimate on the refrain (sakhye mā riṣāmā).
