AV 20.83 ist ein kurzer, aus dem RV entlehnter Indra-Schutzhymnus, der um eine „dreifache“ Zuflucht bittet – einen festen, gestuften Schutzwall sowohl für die Patronatsgruppe als auch für den einzelnen Rezitator. Er weist besonders blendende, waffenartige oder gewaltsam aufblitzende Bedrohungen ab und sucht Indra als den nächststehenden „Leibwächter“ (tanūpā) in Streit- und Viehraub-Kontexten.
