Kindled, be for us rich for well-being; gather and place wealth within us—shine it in us. Make Heaven and Earth wide for good passage; come to human offerings, O Agni, to enjoy them.
When the inner Fire is truly kindled (samidhānaḥ), it becomes ‘revat’—full of inner riches: clarity, force, joy, and right circumstance. The rishi asks Agni to assemble (saṃdadasvān) the scattered ‘rayi’—spiritual plenitude—within the being and make it shine as lived consciousness (dīdihi). ‘Widen Heaven and Earth’ means widen both higher mind and embodied nature so the passage (suvitāya) of the yoga becomes unobstructed: a broad inner space where descent and action can occur without contraction. Finally, Agni is invited to ‘enjoy’ the offerings: the Divine Will accepts and assimilates our surrendered movements, turning them into fuel for illumination.
Well-being arises when inner will is kindled and gathers our energies into a luminous plenitude; widening of consciousness above and below creates an unobstructed path for growth and right action.
boon request, inner wealth (rayi), widening the worlds, acceptance of offerings
Bhārgava Agni hymns often culminate in a practical prayer: inner riches (rayi), wideness, safe passage—signs of successful inner yajña.
A closing aspiration: the installed Agni is asked to integrate the being, illumine it, and create wideness for the journey—classic inner-sadhana outcomes in Aurobindo’s reading.
Receiver and transformer of offerings; opener of the path; bestower of wealth and well-being.
Integrator and illuminator: gathers energies, widens consciousness, ensures smooth progress, assimilates offerings into light-force.
Concluding prayer in Agni rites; used as a boon-seeking (āśīḥ) verse within offerings

Supplicatory yet strong; imperative verbs (saṃdadasvān, dīdihi, kṛṇuṣva, ā…vītaye) give command-like clarity.
Energizes aspiration and confidence; produces a felt wideness after repetition, like breath opening the chest and belly.
General prayoga for kindling and offering acceptance; suitable in Agnihotra and Soma rite openings as a request for svasti and rayi.
After kindling and initial offerings, when asking for svasti, rayi, and suvitā (safe passage).
Offer ghee and recite as request for prosperity, protection, and successful completion of rite/journey.
Daily invocation before work/meditation: ‘kindle, gather my energies, widen my consciousness, accept my offering’.
rayi is not mere material wealth: from √rā/√rai ‘to bestow, give abundance’ → ‘plenitude’. suvitā from su+√i ‘good going’ indicates a right passage through inner states. svasti (su+asti) is ‘good being’, stability in ṛta. dīdihi from √dī ‘shine’ (redup.) denotes intensified illumination within the practitioner.
svasti (right-being), suvitā (right passage), inner illumination (dī)
Suvitā (good passage) implies movement along ṛta—right path made wide and unobstructed.
Dīdihi: truth-light shining as lived clarity; rayi as truth-wealth.
Widening of the two worlds within the person—making room for descent and embodiment.
Integral yoga orientation: integration + wideness as conditions for stable realization.
Kindling = awakening aspiration; path = inner journey through states; heaven/earth wideness = expansion of mind and body-life to hold higher force; offering = surrender of energies.
Integration (gathering rayi within), illumination (dīdihi), and wideness (rodaśī made broad) for smooth progress.
Maṇipūra (kindling) expanding into Anāhata (wideness) and Sahasrāra (heavenly openness)
Widening breath: inhale feeling expansion ‘ā naḥ kṛṇuṣva’; exhale offering ‘havyā…vītaye’.
Collected, luminous, wide—ready for descent into action.
Begin practice by invoking Agni; then silently name 3 scattered energies (fear, haste, doubt) and offer them; feel them gathered into one rayi; end with a sense of wideness above and below and a simple inner ‘yes’ to divine working.
Imperatives carry clear udatta emphasis; keep pitch steady and authoritative on dīdihi and kṛṇuṣva.
Two strong requests: (1) saṃdadasvān…dīdihi (gather + shine) (2) ā naḥ kṛṇuṣva… (widen the worlds). Pause between them.
samidhānaḥ: aspirate dh clearly, saṃdadasvān: nasal ‘ṃ’ before d, suvitāya: short u, long ā at end, vītaye: long ī
Warm, confident, beneficent; end each pāda with a slight settling.
