এই সংক্ষিপ্ত দুই-মন্ত্রের ইন্দ্র-স্তোত্রে পুরুহূত ইন্দ্রের কাছে প্রার্থনা করা হয়েছে—পিতা যেমন পুত্রদের পথ দেখান, তেমনি তিনি যেন উপাসককে ‘ক্রতু’ (প্রেরিত সংকল্প ও সঠিকচিত্ত শক্তি) দান করেন, যাতে সে ‘জীবিত থাকে এবং আলোক লাভ করে’। একই সঙ্গে এটি অদৃশ্য শত্রু শক্তি ও অমঙ্গলজনক আগমনকে দূরে সরাতে চায়, এবং বীর ইন্দ্রের কাছে নিবেদন করে যে তিনি যজমানকে বারবারের পতন ও বিপদসংকুল জলপথ অতিক্রম করান—ঋগ্বৈদিক ইন্দ্র-স্তুতির এক অথর্বণীয় প্রয়োগ, যা দীর্ঘায়ু, নিরাপদ পারাপার ও উদ্যোগে সাফল্যের জন্য।

इन्द्र॒ क्रतुं॑ न॒ आ भ॑र पि॒ता पु॒त्रेभ्यो॒ यथा॑ । शिक्षा॑ णो अ॒स्मिन् पु॑रुहूत॒ याम॑नि जी॒वा ज्योति॑रशीमहि
হে ইন্দ্র! পিতা যেমন পুত্রদের জন্য (কল্যাণকর) ক্রতু—প্রেরিত সংকল্প/বুদ্ধি—আনেন, তেমনি আমাদের জন্য তা এখানে আনো। হে পুরুহূত! এই আমাদের যামনে (পথ/যাত্রায়) আমাদের শিক্ষা দাও, যাতে জীবিত অবস্থায় আমরা জ্যোতি (আলোক) লাভ করি।

मा नो अज्ञा॑ता वृ॒जना॑ दुरा॒ध्यो॒३माशि॑वासो॒ अव॑ क्रमुः । त्वया॑ व॒यं प्र॒वतः॒ शश्व॑तीर॒पोऽति॑ शूर तरामसि
অজানা শত্রুদল—যাদের প্রতিরোধ করা কঠিন—যেন আমাদের উপর নেমে না আসে; অমঙ্গলকর পদক্ষেপ যেন আমাদের উপর না পড়ে। হে বীর! তোমার সহায়তায় আমরা বারংবার ফিরে-আসা অবরোহণ/ঢাল পেরিয়ে যাই এবং জলধারারও ওপারে অতিক্রম করি।
