এই সৰু অথৰ্ববেদীয় সূক্তটো গৰ্ভাধান (গৰ্ভধাৰণ) আৰু পুত্ৰকাম্য (সন্তান-ইচ্ছা) মন্ত্র-চাৰ্ম, যিয়ে গৰ্ভাশয় স্থাপন আৰু সুৰক্ষা কৰে যাতে জীৱনক্ষম ভ্ৰূণ স্থাপিত হৈ পূৰ্ণমেয়াদলৈ ধাৰণ কৰিব পৰা যায়। ইয়াত সুৰক্ষামূলক আৰু সীমা-নিৰ্ধাৰণকাৰী শক্তি ‘পৰিহস্ত’ক আহ্বান কৰা হৈছে, যিয়ে ৰক্ষস (ক্ষতিকাৰক সত্তা/প্ৰভাৱ)ক আঁতৰাই ৰাখি সন্তানলাভ আৰু গৃহসমৃদ্ধি নিশ্চিত কৰে।

गर्भाधानम्। य॒न्तासि॒ यच्छ॑से॒ हस्ता॒वप॒ रक्षां॑सि सेधसि । प्र॒जां धनं॑ च गृह्णा॒नः प॑रिह॒स्तो अ॑भूद॒यम्
গৰ্ভাধান। তুমি আগবঢ়া, তুমি ধৰি ৰাখা; দুয়ো হাতৰে তুমি ৰক্ষাসকলক আঁতৰাই দমন কৰ। প্ৰজা আৰু ধন গ্ৰহণ কৰি এই পৰিহস্ত (ৰক্ষাকবচ) ৰক্ষক হৈ উঠিল।

परि॑हस्त॒ वि धा॑रय॒ योनिं॒ गर्भा॑य॒ धात॑वे । मर्या॑दे पु॒त्रमा धे॑हि॒ तं त्वमा ग॑मयागमे
হে পৰিহস্ত, চাৰিওফালে ধৰি ৰাখা; গৰ্ভ স্থাপন কৰিবলৈ যোনিক ধাৰণ কৰ। সীমাৰ ভিতৰত পুত্ৰ স্থাপন কৰা; তুমি তাক বাৰে বাৰে মোৰ ওচৰলৈ আন।

যি পৰিহস্তক অদিতি পুত্ৰকামনাৰে ধাৰণ কৰে, ত্বষ্টা তাক ইয়াৰ সৈতে বেঁধে দিলে—যেনেকৈ পুত্ৰ জন্মে।
