Bùa chú Atharvavedic một câu này khẩn thỉnh Indra với danh hiệu Sutrāmā (“đấng hộ vệ tốt lành”) để xua đẩy sự thù nghịch và ác ý ra thật xa khỏi người tụng và cộng đồng của họ. Năng lực của câu chú vừa mang tính trừ tà–hộ thân (đẩy lùi dveṣas, tức lòng căm ghét) vừa mang tính xã hội–đạo đức (thiết lập bhadra-saumānasa, sự hòa thuận cát tường). Bài tụng đặt an toàn và hòa hợp như những ân huệ từ tâm ý thuận lành (sumati) của Indra đối với người thờ phụng.
