Mantra 1
दृ॒शा॒नो रु॒क्म उ॒र्व्या व्य॑द्यौद् दु॒र्मर्ष॒मायु॑: श्रि॒ये रु॑चा॒नः । अ॒ग्निर॒मृतो॑ अभव॒द्वयो॑भि॒र्यदे॑नं॒ द्यौरज॑नयत्सु॒रेता॑:
Appearing, the golden one flashed forth from the wide (earth/space), shining for prosperity—(bringing) life that is hard to vanquish. Agni became immortal by his vital powers, when Heaven, of good seed, begat him.
Mantra 2
नक्तो॒षासा॒ सम॑नसा॒ विरू॑पे धा॒पये॑ते॒ शिशु॒मेक॑ᳪ समी॒ची । द्यावा॒क्षामा॑ रु॒क्मो अ॒न्तर्वि भा॑ति दे॒वा अ॒ग्निं धा॑रयन्द्रविणो॒दाः
Night and Dawn, of one mind though of differing form, together suckle one child. Between Heaven and Earth the golden one shines forth within; the Gods, bestowers of wealth, upheld Agni.
Mantra 3
विश्वा॑ रू॒पाणि॒ प्रति॑ मुञ्चते क॒विः प्रासा॑वीद्भ॒द्रं द्वि॒पदे॒ चतु॑ष्पदे । वि नाक॑मख्यत्सवि॒ता वरे॒ण्योऽनु॑ प्र॒याण॑मु॒षसो॒ वि रा॑जति
The Sage putteth on all forms in turn; Savitṛ hath impelled what is auspicious for the two-footed and the four-footed. The adorable Savitṛ hath disclosed the heavenly vault; along the forward course of the Dawns he shineth forth in splendour.
Mantra 4
सु॒प॒र्णो॒ऽसि ग॒रुत्माँ॑स्त्रि॒वृत्ते॒ शिरो॑ गाय॒त्रं चक्षु॑र्बृहद्रथन्त॒रे पक्षौ । स्तोम॑ आ॒त्मा छन्दा॒ᳪस्यङ्गा॑नि॒ यजूँ॑ᳪषि॒ नाम॑ । साम॑ ते त॒नूर्वा॑मदे॒व्यं य॑ज्ञाय॒ज्ञियं॒ पुच्छं॒ धिष्ण्या॑: श॒पाः । सु॒प॒र्णो॒ऽसि ग॒रुत्मा॒न्दिवं॑ गच्छ॒ स्व॑: पत
Thou art the fair-winged, the strong-pinioned: the Trivṛt is thy head; the Gāyatrī thy eye; Bṛhat and Rathantara are thy wings. The Stoma is thy self; the metres are thy limbs; the Yajus-formulas are thy name. The Sāman is thy body; the Vāmadevya is thine; the Yajñāyajñiya thy tail; the Dhisṇya-hearths are thy tail-feathers. Thou art the fair-winged, the strong-pinioned: go thou to heaven, O lord of heaven!
Mantra 5
विष्णो॒: क्रमो॑ऽसि सपत्न॒हा गा॑य॒त्रं छन्द॒ आ रो॑ह पृथि॒वीमनु॒ वि क्र॑मस्व॒ विष्णो॒: क्रमो॑ऽस्यभिमाति॒हा त्रै॑ष्टुभं॒ छन्द॒ आ रो॑हा॒न्तरि॑क्ष॒मनु॒ वि क्र॑मस्व विष्णो॒: क्रमो॑ऽस्यरातीय॒तो ह॒न्ता जाग॑तं॒ छन्द॒ आ रो॑ह॒ दिव॒मनु॒ वि क्र॑मस्व विष्णो॒: क्रमो॑ऽसि शत्रूय॒तो ह॒न्ताऽऽनु॑ष्टुभं॒ छन्द॒ आ रो॑ह॒ दिशोऽनु॒ वि क्र॑मस्व
Thou art Viṣṇu’s stride, the slayer of rivals: mount thou the Gāyatrī metre; stride forth along the earth. Thou art Viṣṇu’s stride, the slayer of hostile assault: mount thou the Triṣṭubh metre; stride forth along the mid-air. Thou art Viṣṇu’s stride, the smiter of the withholder of gifts: mount thou the Jagatī metre; stride forth along the sky. Thou art Viṣṇu’s stride, the smiter of the enemy: mount thou the Anuṣṭubh metre; stride forth along the quarters.
Mantra 6
अक्र॑न्दद॒ग्नि स्त॒नय॑न्निव॒ द्यौ॒: क्षामा॒ रेरि॑हद्वी॒रुध॑: सम॒ञ्जन् । स॒द्यो ज॑ज्ञा॒नो वि हीमि॒द्धो अख्य॒दा रोद॑सी भा॒नुना॑ भात्य॒न्तः
Agni roared, as it were the thundering heaven; he licked the earth, he touched the plants, spreading himself abroad. New-born, yea, when kindled, he became manifest: between the two worlds he shineth with his radiance within.
Mantra 7
अग्ने॑ऽभ्यावर्तिन्न॒भि मा॒ नि व॑र्त॒स्वायु॑षा॒ वर्च॑सा प्र॒जया॒ धने॑न । स॒न्या मे॒धया॑ र॒य्या पोषे॑ण
O Agni, thou that returnest, return unto me; turn in towards me with life, with lustre, with offspring, with wealth; with winning, with intelligence, with abundance, with thriving.
Mantra 8
अग्ने॑ अङ्गिरः श॒तं ते॑ सन्त्वा॒वृत॑: स॒हस्रं॑ त उपा॒वृत॑: । अधा॒ पोष॑स्य॒ पोषे॑ण॒ पुन॑र्नो न॒ष्टमा कृ॑धि॒ पुन॑र्नो र॒यिमा कृ॑धि
O Agni, O Angiras, let there be for thee a hundred returnings, and for thee a thousand further returnings. Then, by nourishment with nourishment, restore unto us again what hath been lost; restore unto us again our substance and wealth.
Mantra 9
पुन॑रू॒र्जा नि व॑र्तस्व॒ पुन॑रग्न इ॒षाऽऽयु॑षा । पुन॑र्नः पा॒ह्यᳪह॑सः
Return again with vigour; return again, O Agni, with refreshment and with life. Again do thou protect us from distress and sin.
Mantra 10
स॒ह र॒य्या नि व॑र्त॒स्वाग्ने॒ पिन्व॑स्व॒ धार॑या । वि॒श्वप्स्न्या॑ वि॒श्वत॒स्परि॑
Return again together with wealth, O Agni; make it to abound with a flowing stream, encompassing in thine operations, on every side around.
Mantra 11
आ त्वा॑ऽहार्षम॒न्तर॑भूर्ध्रु॒वस्ति॒ष्ठावि॑चाचलिः । विश॑स्त्वा॒ सर्वा॑ वाञ्छन्तु॒ मा त्वद्रा॒ष्ट्रमधि॑भ्रशत्
I have brought thee hither; thou hast become within: stand thou firm, unshaken. May all the peoples desire thee; may the realm not fall away from thee.
Mantra 12
उदु॑त्त॒मं व॑रुण॒ पाश॑म॒स्मदवा॑ध॒मं वि म॑ध्य॒मᳪ श्र॑थाय । अथा॑ व॒यमा॑दित्य व्र॒ते तवाना॑गसो॒ अदि॑तये स्याम
Loose from us, O Varuṇa, the uppermost bond; loosen the lowermost; unloose the middle. Then may we, O Āditya, abiding in thine ordinance, be without offence, and belong unto Aditi (the Unbounded).
Mantra 13
अग्रे॑ बृ॒हन्नु॒षसा॑मू॒र्ध्वो अ॑स्थान्निर्जग॒न्वान् तम॑सो॒ ज्योति॒षाऽऽगा॑त् । अ॒ग्निर्भा॒नुना॒ रुश॑ता॒ स्वङ्ग॒ आ जा॒तो विश्वा॒ सद्मा॑न्यप्राः
In the beginning the Great One, upright among the Dawns, stood forth; issuing from darkness he came with light. Agni, with his radiant beam, fair-limbed, when born, hath filled all seats and dwelling-places.
Mantra 14
ह॒ᳪसः शु॑चि॒षद्वसु॑रन्तरिक्ष॒सद्धोता॑ वेदि॒षदति॑थिर्दूरोण॒सत् । नृ॒षद्व॑र॒सदृ॑त॒सद् व्योम॒सद॒ब्जा गो॒जा ऋ॑त॒जा अ॑द्रि॒जा ऋ॒तं बृ॒हत्
The Swan, abiding in the pure, the goodly one, abiding in mid-air; the Hotṛ, abiding on the altar; the Guest, abiding in the house. Abiding among men, abiding in the best place, abiding in Ṛta, abiding in the sky; water-born, cow-born, ṛta-born, rock-born—(he is) the great Ṛta.
Mantra 15
सीद॒ त्वं मा॒तुर॒स्या उ॒पस्थे॒ विश्वा॑न्यग्ने व॒युना॑नि वि॒द्वान् । मै॑नां॒ तप॑सा॒ मार्चिषा॒ऽभि शो॑चीर॒न्तर॑स्याᳪ शु॒क्रज्यो॑ति॒र्वि भा॑हि
Sit thou down in the lap of this thy mother, O Agni, knowing all wise ordinances. Scorch her not with heat, nor with thy flame; within her shine forth as bright and stainless light.
Mantra 16
अ॒न्तर॑ग्ने रु॒चा त्वमु॒खायाः॒ सद॑ने॒ स्वे । तस्या॒स्त्वᳪ हर॑सा॒ तप॒ञ्जात॑वेदः शि॒वो भ॑व
Within, O Agni, with thy light, abide thou in thine own seat of the ukhā. Therein, glowing with thy heat, O Jātavedas, be thou auspicious.
Mantra 17
शि॒वो भू॒त्वा मह्य॑मग्ने॒ अथो॑ सीद शि॒वस्त्वम् । शि॒वा: कृ॒त्वा दिश॒: सर्वा॒: स्वं योनि॑मि॒हास॑दः
Be thou auspicious unto me, O Agni; and then, being thyself auspicious, sit thou down. Having made all the quarters auspicious, sit thou here in thine own womb, thine proper source.
Mantra 18
दि॒वस्परि॑ प्रथ॒मं ज॑ज्ञे अ॒ग्निर॒स्मद् द्वि॒तीयं॒ परि॑ जा॒तवे॑दाः । तृ॒तीय॑म॒प्सु नृ॒मणा॒ अज॑स्र॒मिन्धा॑न एनं जरते स्वा॒धीः
From heaven he was first born—Agni; from us, as Jātavedas, he was born a second time. A third time, in the waters, the man-delighting one—unceasingly kindled—abideth: him the well-ordained wisdom cherisheth unto age.
Mantra 19
वि॒द्मा ते॑ अग्ने त्रे॒धा त्र॒याणि॑ वि॒द्मा ते॒ धाम॒ विभृ॑ता पुरु॒त्रा । वि॒द्मा ते॒ नाम॑ पर॒मं गुहा॒ यद्वि॒द्मा तमुत्सं॒ यत॑ आज॒गन्थ॑
We know, O Agni, thy threefold forms; we know thy abodes, borne and set abroad in many places. We know thy highest name, that is in secret; we know the well-spring whence thou hast come hither.
Mantra 20
स॒मु॒द्रे त्वा॑ नृ॒मणा॑ अ॒प्स्वन्तर्नृ॒चक्षा॑ ईधे दि॒वो अ॑ग्न॒ ऊध॑न् । तृ॒तीये॑ त्वा॒ रज॑सि तस्थि॒वाᳪस॑म॒पामु॒पस्थे॑ महि॒षा अ॑वर्धन्
In the ocean, within the waters, thee—man-delighting, man-beholding—do I kindle, O Agni, as heaven’s udder. In the third region, in the mid-air, thee standing firm, in the bosom of the waters, the mighty powers increased.
Mantra 21
अक्र॑न्दद॒ग्नि स्त॒नय॑न्निव॒ द्यौ: क्षामा॒ रेरि॑हद्वी॒रुध॑: सम॒ञ्जन् । स॒द्यो ज॑ज्ञा॒नो वि हीमि॒द्धो अख्य॒दा रोद॑सी भा॒नुना॑ भात्य॒न्तः
Agni roared, as though the sky were thundering; he licked the earth, devouring the plants, as he knit the regions together. Straightway born, yea, when kindled, he became manifest: with his radiance he shineth within unto the two worlds.
Mantra 22
श्री॒णामु॑दा॒रो ध॒रुणो॑ रयी॒णां म॑नी॒षाणां॒ प्रार्प॑ण॒: सोम॑गोपाः । वसु॑: सू॒नुः सह॑सो अ॒प्सु राजा॒ वि भा॒त्यग्र॑ उ॒षसा॑मिधा॒नः
Bounteous in splendours, the stay of riches, the forwarder of inspired thoughts, the guardian of Soma: the good one, the son of might, king in the waters—when kindled, he shineth forth in front, before the Dawns.
Mantra 23
विश्व॑स्य के॒तुर्भुव॑नस्य॒ गर्भ॒ आ रोद॑सी अपृणा॒ज्जाय॑मानः । वी॒डुं चि॒दद्रि॑मभिनत् परा॒यञ्जना॒ यद॒ग्निमय॑जन्त॒ पञ्च॑
The Banner of all, the Embryo of the world, when born he filled the two regions, Heaven and Earth. Even the strong fastness, even the rock, he clave as he sped onward, when men, the fivefold, offered sacrifice unto Agni.
Mantra 24
उ॒शिक्पा॑व॒को अ॑र॒तिः सु॑मे॒धा मर्त्ये॑ष्व॒ग्निर॒मृतो॒ नि धा॑यि । इय॑र्ति धू॒मम॑रु॒षं भरि॑भ्र॒दुच्छु॒क्रेण॑ शो॒चिषा॒ द्यामिन॑क्षन्
The eager Purifier, the restless, the wise—Agni, the Immortal, is established among mortals. He sends aloft the ruddy smoke, bearing it onward; with bright flame he reaches unto the sky.
Mantra 25
दृ॒शा॒नो रु॒क्म उ॒र्व्या व्य॑द्यौद्दु॒र्मर्ष॒मायु॑: श्रि॒ये रु॑चा॒नः । अ॒ग्निर॒मृतो॑ अभव॒द्वयो॑भि॒र्यदे॑नं द्यौरज॑नय॑त्सु॒रेता॑:
Seen as a golden splendour, he shone forth over the wide earth, radiant for glory, with life that none may vanquish. Agni became immortal with his vital powers, when Heaven, rich in seed, brought him to birth.
Mantra 26
यस्ते॑ अ॒द्य कृ॒णव॑द्भद्रशोचेऽपू॒पं दे॑व घृ॒तव॑न्तमग्ने । प्र तं न॑य प्रत॒रं वस्यो॒ अच्छा॒भि सु॒म्नं दे॒वभ॑क्तं यविष्ठ
Whoso this day, O Agni of auspicious flame, hath made for thee the cake, O God, enriched with ghee,—lead thou that offering onward to a better, to a more excellent state; bring us, O youngest, the favour duly portioned to the Gods.
Mantra 27
आ तं भ॑ज सौश्रव॒सेष्व॑ग्न उ॒क्थ उ॑क्थ॒ आ भ॑ज श॒स्यमा॑ने । प्रि॒यः सूर्ये॑ प्रि॒यो अ॒ग्ना भ॑वा॒त्युज्जा॒तेन॑ भि॒नद॒दुज्जनि॑त्वैः
Grant us a share in deeds that win good fame, O Agni; at each and every hymn, grant us a share when praise is uttered. Dear to the Sun, dear to Agni may he become; with what is newly born he cleaveth through, by his new births.
Mantra 28
त्वाम॑ग्ने॒ यज॑माना॒ अनु॒ द्यून् विश्वा॒ वसु॑ दधिरे॒ वार्या॑णि । त्वया॑ स॒ह द्रवि॑णमि॒च्छमा॑ना व्र॒जं गोम॑न्तमु॒शिजो॒ वि व॑व्रुः
The sacrificers, O Agni, following thee day by day, have laid up all manner of goods, even choice possessions. Desiring substance together with thee, the eager worshippers have spread abroad unto a cattle-pen abounding in kine.
Mantra 29
अस्ता॑व्य॒ग्निर्न॒राᳪ सु॒शेवो॑ वैश्वान॒र ऋषि॑भि॒: सोम॑गोपाः । अ॒द्वे॒षे द्यावा॑पृथि॒वी हु॑वेम॒ देवा॑ ध॒त्त र॒यिम॒स्मे सु॒वीर॑म्
Agni hath been lauded—gracious unto men—Vaiśvānara, by the seers, guardians of Soma. In freedom from hatred we invoke Heaven and Earth: O Gods, bestow upon us wealth rich in goodly heroes.
Mantra 30
स॒मिधा॒ऽग्निं दु॑वस्यत घृ॒तैर्बो॑धय॒ताति॑थिम् । आऽस्मि॑न् हव्या जु॑होतन
With kindling serve ye Agni; with ghee awaken the Guest: offer ye oblations into him here.
Mantra 31
उदु॑ त्वा॒ विश्वे॑ दे॒वा अग्ने॒ भर॑न्तु॒ चित्ति॑भिः । स नो॑ भव शि॒वस्त्वᳪ सु॒प्रती॑को वि॒भाव॑सुः
May all the Gods, O Agni, bear thee upward with their thoughts. Be thou for us auspicious—thou of fair aspect, O radiant one.
Mantra 32
प्रेद॑ग्ने॒ ज्योति॑ष्मान् याहि शि॒वेभि॑र॒र्चिभि॒ष्ट्वम् । बृ॒हद्भि॑र्भा॒नुभि॒र्भास॒न्मा हि॑ᳪसीस्त॒न्वा॒ प्र॒जाः
Go forth, O Agni, full of light, with auspicious flames—thou; shining with mighty beams, do thou, as thou blazest, injure not our bodies nor our offspring.
Mantra 33
अक्र॑न्दद॒ग्नि स्त॒नय॑न्निव॒ द्यौः क्षामा॒ रेरि॑हद्वी॒रुध॑ः सम॒ञ्जन् । स॒द्यो ज॑ज्ञा॒नो वि हीमि॒द्धो अख्य॒दा रोद॑सी भा॒नुना॑ भात्य॒न्तः
Agni cried aloud, as it were the thunder of the sky; the earth licked up the plants as he spread abroad. Newly born forthwith, when kindled, he looked upon the two worlds; within them he shineth with his beam.
Mantra 34
प्र-प्रा॒यम॒ग्निर्भ॑र॒तस्य॑ शृण्वे॒ वि यत्सूर्यो॒ न रोच॑ते बृ॒हद्भाः । अ॒भि यः पू॒रुं पृत॑नासु त॒स्थौ दी॒दाय दैव्यो॒ अति॑थिः शि॒वो न॑ः
Forth hath Agni advanced—of Bharata is his fame—of mighty splendour, when he shineth like the Sun. He who stood by Pūru in the battles, the divine Guest hath gleamed, auspicious unto us.
Mantra 35
आपो॑ देवी॒ः प्रति॑ गृभ्णीत॒ भस्मै॒तत्स्यो॒ने कृ॑णुध्वᳪ सुर॒भा उ॑ लो॒के । तस्मै॑ नमन्तां॒ जन॑यः सु॒पत्नी॑र्मा॒तेव॑ पु॒त्रं बि॑भृता॒प्स्वे॒नत्
O divine Waters, receive this ash; in a kindly seat make it to rest, fragrant in the world. Unto it let the mothers, the good spouses, bow down, bearing it in the waters as a mother beareth her son.
Mantra 36
अ॒प्स्व॒ग्ने॒ सधि॒ष्टव॒ सौष॑धी॒रनु॑ रुध्यसे । गर्भे॒ सञ्जा॑यसे॒ पुन॑ः
In the waters, O Agni, be thou firmly seated; with the plants thou art encompassed. In the womb thou art born again.
Mantra 37
गर्भो॑ अ॒स्योष॑धीनां॒ गर्भो॒ वन॒स्पती॑नाम् । गर्भो॒ विश्व॑स्य भू॒तस्याग्ने॒ गर्भो॑ अ॒पाम॑सि
Thou art the womb of the plants, the womb of the forest-trees; the womb of all that hath come to be: O Agni, thou art the womb of the waters.
Mantra 38
प्र॒सद्य॒ भस्म॑ना॒ योनि॑म॒पश्च॑ पृथि॒वीम॑ग्ने । स॒ᳪसृज्य॑ मा॒तृभि॒ष्ट्वं ज्योति॑ष्मा॒न् पुन॒रा ऽस॑दः
Having again sat thee down in thy womb with ashes, and (with) the Waters and the Earth, O Agni,—having joined thee with the Mothers,—do thou, full of light, sit down again.
Mantra 39
पुन॑रा॒सद्य॒ सद॑नम॒पश्च॑ पृथि॒वीम॑ग्ने । शेषे॑ मा॒तुर्यथो॒पस्थे॒ऽन्तर॑स्याᳪ शि॒वत॑मः
Having again sat down upon thy seat, with the Waters and the Earth, O Agni, thou restest, most benign, within her, as in the lap of a mother.
Mantra 40
पुन॑रू॒र्जा नि व॑र्तस्व॒ पुन॑रग्न इ॒षाऽऽयु॑षा । पुन॑र्नः पा॒ह्यᳪह॑सः
Return again with nourishment; return again, O Agni, with refreshment and with life; again protect us from distress.
Mantra 41
स॒ह र॒य्या नि व॑र्त॒स्वाग्ने॒ पिन्व॑स्व॒ धार॑या । वि॒श्वप्स्न्या॑ वि॒श्वत॒स्परि॑
Return again together with wealth, O Agni; make (us) thrive with a stream; all-pervading, encompass (us) on every side.
Mantra 42
बोधा॑ मे अ॒स्य वच॑सो यविष्ठ॒ मᳪहि॑ष्ठस्य॒ प्रभृ॑तस्य स्वधावः । पीय॑ति त्वो॒ अनु॑ त्वो गृणाति व॒न्दारु॑ष्टे त॒न्वं॒ वन्दे अग्ने
Take heed of this my speech, O youngest (Agni),—of the most bounteous, duly brought forth, O thou of inherent might. He drinketh of thee; after thee he singeth: the worshipper—thy very body—do I adore, O Agni.
Mantra 43
स बो॑धि सू॒रिर्म॒घवा॒ वसु॑पते॒ वसु॑दावन् । यु॒यो॒ध्यस्मद् द्वेषा॑ᳪसि वि॒श्वक॑र्मणे॒ स्वाहा॑
Awake, O bounteous Patron, O Maghavan, Lord of wealth, bestower of riches! Repel from us the hatreds: unto Viśvakarman—Svāhā.
Mantra 44
पुन॑स्त्वाऽऽदि॒त्या रु॒द्रा वस॑व॒: समि॑न्धतां॒ पुन॑र्ब्र॒ह्माणो॑ वसुनीथ य॒ज्ञैः । घृ॒तेन॒ त्वं त॒न्वं॒ वर्धयस्व स॒त्याः स॑न्तु॒ यज॑मानस्य॒ कामा॑:
Again may the Ādityas, the Rudras, the Vasus kindle thee; again may the Brahman-powers, by sacrifices, lead thee on the path of wealth. With ghee do thou increase thy body: may the desires of the Sacrificer be fulfilled in truth.
Mantra 45
अपे॑त वी॒त वि च॑ सर्प॒तातो॒ येऽत्र॒ स्थ पु॑रा॒णा ये च॒ नूत॑नाः । अदा॑द्य॒मो॒ऽव॒सानं॑ पृथि॒व्या अक्र॑न्नि॒मं पि॒तरो॑ लो॒कम॑स्मै
Begone! away! creep forth and vanish, ye that are here, whether of old or whether of recent time. Yama hath given a boundary of the earth: the Fathers have fashioned for him this world.
Mantra 46
सं॒ज्ञान॑मसि काम॒धर॑णं॒ मयि॑ ते काम॒धर॑णं भूयात् । अ॒ग्नेर्भस्मा॑स्य॒ग्नेः पुरी॑षमसि॒ । चित॑ स्थ परि॒चित॑ ऊर्ध्व॒चित॑: श्रयध्वम्
Thou art concord, the support of desire; in me may thy support of desire abide. Thou art Agni’s ash; thou art Agni’s filling. Built art thou, built around, built upward: take ye your places.
Mantra 47
अ॒यᳪ सो अ॒ग्निर्यस्मि॒न्त्सोम॒मिन्द्र॑: सु॒तं द॒धे ज॒ठरे॑ वावशा॒नः । स॒ह॒स्रियं॒ वाज॒मत्यं॒ न सप्ति॑ᳪ सस॒वान्त्सन्त्स्तू॑यसे जातवेदः
This is that Agni in whom Indra hath set the pressed Soma in his belly, eagerly craving it. Thousandfold the prize, like a steed, like a racer, winning it—thou, O Jātavedas, art praised as victor.
Mantra 48
अग्ने॒ यत्ते॑ दि॒वि वर्च॑ः पृथि॒व्यां यदोष॑धीष्व॒प्स्वा य॑जत्र । येना॒न्तरि॑क्षमु॒र्वा॑त॒तन्थ॑ त्वे॒षः स भा॒नुर॑र्ण॒वो नृ॒चक्षा॑ः ॥
O Agni, that splendour of thine which is in heaven, and that which is on earth, and that which is in the plants and in the waters, O adorable one,—wherewith thou hast stretched out the wide mid-air: that fierce beam of thine, the flood-like radiance, is manifest unto men.
Mantra 49
अग्ने॑ दि॒वो अर्ण॒मच्छा॑ जिगा॒स्यच्छा॑ दे॒वाँ२ ऊ॑चिषे॒ धिष्ण्या॒ ये । या रो॑च॒ने प॒रस्ता॒त् सूर्य॑स्य॒ याश्चा॒वस्ता॑दुप॒तिष्ठ॑न्त॒ आप॑ः ॥
O Agni, unto the flood of heaven thou fain wouldst go; unto the gods, the established powers, thou utterest thy call: the waters that in the luminous realm stand above the sun, and those that below attend upon him.
Mantra 50
पुरी॒ष्या॒सो अ॒ग्नय॑ः प्राव॒णेभि॑ः स॒जोष॑सः । जु॒षन्तां॑ य॒ज्ञम॒द्रुहो॑ऽनमी॒वा इषो॑ म॒हीः ॥
May the ‘earth-packed’ fires, in concord with the altar-slopes, delight in the sacrifice—harmless, free from hurt—(granting) mighty refreshments.
Mantra 51
इडा॑मग्ने पुरु॒दᳪस॑ᳪ स॒निं गोः श॑श्वत्त॒मᳪ हव॑मानाय साध । स्यान्न॑ः सू॒नुस्तन॑यो वि॒जावाग्ने॒ सा ते॑ सुम॒तिर्भू॑त्व॒स्मे ॥
Accomplish for the caller, O Agni, Iḍā—of manifold efficacy—the gain of cattle, most constant and enduring. May there be for us a son, a child, rich in offspring, O Agni: so may thy gracious favour be unto us.
Mantra 52
अ॒यं ते॒ योनि॑रृ॒त्वियो॒ यतो॑ जा॒तो अरो॑चथाः । तं जा॒नन्न॑ग्न॒ आ रो॒हाथा॑ नो वर्धया र॒यिम् ॥
This is thy womb, O ritual Agni, whence, being born, thou hast shone forth. Knowing it, O Agni, ascend (and take thy seat) thereon; and then increase for us wealth.
Mantra 53
चिद॑सि॒ तया॑ दे॒वत॑याऽङ्गिर॒स्वद् ध्रु॒वा सी॑द प॑रि॒चिद॑सि॒ तया॑ दे॒वत॑याऽङ्गिर॒स्वद् ध्रु॒वा सी॑द
Thou art the Known; with that deity, after the manner of the Aṅgirases, sit thou down, O Firm One. Thou art the Known all-round; with that deity, after the manner of the Aṅgirases, sit thou down, O Firm One.
Mantra 54
लो॒कं पृ॑ण छि॒द्रं पृ॒णाथो॑ सीद ध्रु॒वा त्वम् । इ॒न्द्रा॒ग्नी त्वा॒ बृह॒स्पति॑र॒स्मिन् योना॑वसीषदन्
Fill thou the world; fill thou the gap; and then sit down, thou Firm One. Indra and Agni, and Bṛhaspati, have seated thee in this womb.
Mantra 55
ता अ॑स्य॒ सूद॑दोहस॒: सोम॑ श्रीणन्ति॒ पृश्न॑यः । जन्म॑न्दे॒वानां॒ विश॑स्त्रि॒ष्वा रो॑च॒ने दि॒वः
Those speckled (cows), rich in nourishing milkings, prepare for him the Soma: the birth-place of the gods’ clans is in the three luminous realms of heaven.
Mantra 57
समि॑तᳪ सं क॑ल्पेथा॒ᳪ संप्रि॑यौ रोचि॒ष्णू सु॑मन॒स्यमा॑नौ । इष॒मूर्ज॑म॒भि सं॒वसा॑नौ
Unite ye in due order the kindling; be ye in concord, ye radiant twain, being of gracious mind; jointly invested, encompass ye refreshment and vigour.
Mantra 58
सं वां॒ मना॑ᳪसि॒ सं व्र॒ता समु॑ चि॒त्तान्याक॑रम् । अग्ने॑ पुरीष्याधि॒पा भ॑व॒ त्वं न॒ इष॒मूर्जं॒ यज॑मानाय धेहि
Into concord have I brought your minds, into concord your observances; and your purposes have I made to meet together. O Agni, be thou the lord of the purīṣa; do thou bestow upon us refreshment and strength for the Sacrificer.
Mantra 59
अग्ने॒ त्वं पु॑री॒ष्यो॒ रयि॒मान् पु॑ष्टि॒माँ२ अ॑सि । शि॒वाः कृ॒त्वा दिश॒: सर्वा॒: स्वं योनि॑मि॒हाऽस॑दः
O Agni, thou art of the purīṣa, wealthy and thriving. Having made all the quarters auspicious, do thou here sit down upon thine own proper seat.
Mantra 60
भव॑तं न॒: सम॑नसौ॒ सचे॑तसावरे॒पसौ॑ । मा य॒ज्ञᳪ हि॑ᳪसिष्टं॒ मा य॒ज्ञप॑तिं जातवेदसौ शि॒वौ भ॑वतम॒द्य न॑:
Be ye for us of one mind, of one intent, unblemished. Injure not the sacrifice, injure not the lord of the sacrifice, O ye two Jātavedas; be ye auspicious unto us this day.
Mantra 61
मा॒तेव॑ पु॒त्रं पृ॑थि॒वी पु॑री॒ष्य॒म॒ग्निᳪ स्वे योना॑वभारु॒खा । तां विश्वै॑र्दे॒वैरृ॒तुभि॑: संविदा॒नः प्र॒जाप॑तिर्वि॒श्वक॑र्मा॒ वि मु॑ञ्चतु
As a mother her son, so hath Earth, the purīṣa-bearing, lifted Agni into his own seat. In concord with all the gods, with the seasons, let Prajāpati the All-fashioner set her free (and make her unbound).
Mantra 62
असु॑न्वन्त॒मय॑जमानमिच्छ स्ते॒नस्ये॒त्यामन्वि॑हि॒ तस्क॑रस्य । अ॒न्यम॒स्मदि॑च्छ॒ सा त॑ इ॒त्या नमो॑ देवि निरृते॒ तुभ्य॑मस्तु
Seek thou the non-presser, the non-sacrificer: ‘of the thief,’—thus do thou follow after; ‘of the robber.’ Seek another than us: ‘so be it for thee,’—thus (we say). Obeisance be to thee, O goddess Nirṛti.
Mantra 63
नम॒ः सु ते॑ निरृते तिग्मतेजोऽय॒स्मयं॒ वि चृ॑ता ब॒न्धमे॒तम् । य॒मेन॒ त्वं य॒म्या सं॑विदा॒नोत्त॒मे ना॒के अधि॑ रोहयैनम्
Homage be unto thee, O Nirṛti, of keen-edged might! This iron bond—being cut asunder—(let it be) undone. Thou, being in accord with Yama and with Yamī, do thou cause him to mount aloft, even in the highest heaven.
Mantra 64
यस्या॑स्ते घोर आ॒सञ्जु॒होम्ये॒षां ब॒न्धाना॑मव॒सर्ज॑नाय । यां त्वा॒ जनो॒ भूमि॒रिति॑ प्र॒मन्द॑ते॒ निरृ॑तिं त्वा॒ऽहं परि॑वेद वि॒श्वत॑:
Unto thee, O dread (goddess), I offer—(even) to her whose (bonds) these are—for the discharge of these fetters. Thee whom men delight to name ‘Earth,’ thee, Nirṛti, do I encompass (and ward off) on every side.
Mantra 65
यं ते॑ दे॒वी निरृ॑तिराब॒बन्ध॒ पाशं॑ ग्री॒वास्व॑विचृ॒त्यम् । तं ते॒ वि ष्या॒म्यायु॑षो॒ न मध्या॒दथै॒तं पि॒तुम॑द्धि॒ प्रसू॑तः । नमो॒ भूत्यै॒ येदं च॒कार॑
The noose which the goddess Nirṛti hath bound upon thy necks—(a noose) deemed not to be cut—this same do I loosen for thee, not from the midst of thy life. Then eat thou this nourishment, being duly impelled. Homage be to Prosperity, who hath wrought this (deliverance).
Mantra 66
नि॒वेश॑नः स॒ङ्गम॑नो॒ वसू॑नां॒ विश्वा॑ रू॒पाऽभि च॑ष्टे॒ शची॑भिः । दे॒व इ॑व सवि॒ता स॒त्यध॒र्मेन्द्रो॒ न त॑स्थौ सम॒रे प॑थी॒नाम्
A Settler, a Gatherer of riches, he with efficacious powers beholdeth all forms. Like Savitṛ, a god of true ordinance, he stood firm like Indra at the confluence of the paths.
Mantra 67
सीरा॑ युञ्जन्ति क॒वयो॑ यु॒गा वि त॑न्वते॒ पृथ॑क् । धीरा॑ दे॒वेषु॑ सुम्न॒या
The wise yoke on the ploughs; the yokes they spread apart in ordered lines; the steadfast (do so) among the gods for favour.
Mantra 68
यु॒नक्त॒ सीरा॒ वि यु॒गा त॑नुध्वं कृ॒ते योनौ॑ वपते॒ह बीज॑म् । गि॒रा च॑ श्रु॒ष्टिः सभ॑रा॒ अस॑न्नो॒ नेदी॑य॒ इत्सृ॒ण्य॒: प॒क्वमेया॑त्
Yoke ye the ploughs; stretch forth the yokes apart; in the well-prepared womb sow ye here the seed. With sacred speech and with obedient favour may there be abundance for us; may the sickle come nigh, and the ripe (harvest) draw on.
Mantra 69
शु॒नᳪ सु फाला॒ वि कृ॑षन्तु॒ भूमि॑ᳪ शु॒नं की॒नाशा॑ अ॒भि य॑न्तु वा॒हैः । शुना॑सीरा ह॒विषा॒ तोश॑माना सुपिप्प॒ला ओष॑धीः कर्तना॒स्मै
Auspiciously may the ploughshares cleave the earth; auspiciously may the ploughmen advance with their teams. O Śunā and Sīrā, rejoicing in the oblation, make for this man plants full of sap and rich in fruit.
Mantra 70
घृ॒तेन॒ सीता॒ मधु॑ना॒ सम॑ज्यतां॒ विश्वै॑र्दे॒वैरनु॑मता म॒रुद्भि॑: । ऊर्ज॑स्वती॒ पय॑सा॒ पिन्व॑माना॒स्मान्त्सी॑ते॒ पय॑सा॒ऽभ्या व॑वृत्स्व
Let the Furrow be anointed with ghee, with sweetness, approved by all the gods, with the Maruts. O Sītā, rich in nourishment, swelling with milk-like plenty, turn hither unto us; encompass us with thy abundance.
Mantra 71
लाङ्ग॑लं॒ पवी॑रवत्सु॒शेव॑ᳪ सोम॒पित्स॑रु । तदुद्व॑पति॒ गामविं॑ प्रफ॒र्व्यं॒ च॒ पीव॑रीं प्र॒स्थाव॑द्रथ॒वाह॑णम्
The plough, edged with metal, most kindly, Soma-drinking—O Saru!—that turns up (the soil), bringing forth the cow and the sheep, thriving wealth, and the power that draws the chariot.
Mantra 72
कामं॑ कामदुघे धुक्ष्व मि॒त्राय॒ वरु॑णाय च । इन्द्रा॑या॒श्विभ्यां॑ पू॒ष्णे प्र॒जाभ्य॒ ओष॑धीभ्यः
Milk forth our wish, O wish-yielding (cow), for Mitra and for Varuṇa; for Indra, for the Aśvins, for Pūṣan; for progeny and for plants.
Mantra 73
वि मु॑च्यध्वमघ्न्या देवयाना॒ अग॑न्म॒ तम॑सस्पा॒रम॒स्य । ज्योति॑रापाम्
Be ye unloosed, O ye inviolable (cows), ye that fare on the path of the Gods: we have passed unto the farther shore of this darkness—unto the light of the Waters.
Mantra 74
स॒जूरब्दो॒ अय॑वोभिः स॒जूरु॒षा अरु॑णीभिः । स॒जोष॑साव॒श्विना॒ दᳪसो॑भिः स॒जूः सूर॒ एत॑शेन स॒जूर्वै॑श्वान॒र इड॑या घृ॒तेन॒ स्वाहा॑
In concord with the Year, with its grains; in concord with Dawn, with her ruddy splendours; in concord with the Dawn and the Aśvins with their wondrous powers; in concord with the Sun and Etaśa; in concord with Vaiśvānara—with Iḍā, with ghee—Svāhā!
Mantra 75
या ओष॑धी॒: पूर्वा॑ जा॒ता दे॒वेभ्य॑स्त्रियु॒गं पु॒रा । मनै॒ नु ब॒भ्रूणा॑म॒हᳪ श॒तं धामा॑नि स॒प्त च॑
Ye herbs that were of old born first for the Gods, three ages long ago—bethink you now! I know the brown ones’ stations, a hundred, yea seven besides.
Mantra 76
श॒तं वो॑ अम्ब॒ धामा॑नि स॒हस्र॑मु॒त वो॒ रुह॑: । अधा॑ शतक्रत्वो यू॒यमि॒मं मे॑ अग॒दं कृ॑त
A hundred are your powers, O Mother, and a thousand are your growths: then, O hundred-powered one, do ye make for me this remedy.
Mantra 77
ओष॑धी॒: प्रति॑ मोदध्वं॒ पुष्प॑वतीः प्र॒सूव॑रीः । अश्वा॑ इव स॒जित्व॑रीर्वी॒रुध॑: पारयि॒ष्ण्व॒:
Rejoice ye herbs in answer—ye flower-bearing, richly fruitful! Like steeds victorious in the race, O plants, be ye bearers across (of peril).
Mantra 78
ओष॑धी॒रिति॑ मातर॒स्तद्वो॑ देवी॒रुप॑ ब्रुवे । स॒नेय॒मश्वं॒ गां वास॑ आ॒त्मानं॒ तव॑ पूरुष
‘Herbs,’—thus, O Mothers, unto you, O Goddesses, I address my speech: may I win the horse, the cow, the raiment—yea, thy very self, O Man.
Mantra 79
अ॒श्व॒त्थे वो॑ नि॒षद॑नं प॒र्णे वो॑ वस॒तिष्कृ॒ता । गो॒भाज॒ इत्किला॑सथ॒ यत्स॒नव॑थ॒ पूरु॑षम्
In the Aśvattha is your seat; in the leaf your dwelling is established. Partakers of cattle, verily, are ye, inasmuch as ye may win the Man.
Mantra 80
यत्रौ॑षधीः स॒मग्म॑त॒ राजा॑न॒: समि॑ताविव । विप्र॒: स उ॑च्यते भि॒षग्र॑क्षो॒हामी॑व॒चात॑नः
Where the herbs have met together, like kings in council at the assembly,—he is called the inspired one, the physician, the slayer of fiends, the dispeller of disease.
Mantra 81
अ॒श्वा॒व॒तीᳪ सो॑माव॒तीमू॒र्जय॑न्ती॒मुदो॑जसम् । आऽवि॑त्सि॒ सर्वा॒ ओष॑धीर॒स्मा अ॑रि॒ष्टता॑तये
Horse-rich, Soma-rich, nourishing, abounding in strength,—do thou secure all the herbs for him, for unimpaired welfare.
Mantra 82
उच्छुष्मा॒ ओष॑धीनां॒ गावो॑ गो॒ष्ठादि॑वेरते । धन॑ᳪ सनि॒ष्यन्ती॑नामा॒त्मानं॒ तव॑ पूरुष
Full of vigour are the herbs; like cows from the stall they speed forth: of them that are about to win wealth—(they win) thy very self, O Man.
Mantra 83
इ॒ष्कृ॑ति॒र्नाम॑ वो मा॒ताऽथो॑ यू॒यᳪ स्थ॒ निष्कृ॑तीः । सी॒राः प॑त॒त्रिणी॑ स्थन॒ यदा॒मय॑ति॒ निष्कृ॑थ
‘Deliverance’ is your mother’s name; and ye are verily the Expellers. Ye are furrows, ye are winged: drive ye forth that which afflicteth (us).
Mantra 84
अति॒ विश्वा॑: परि॒ष्ठा स्ते॒न इ॑व व्र॒जम॑क्रमुः । ओष॑धी॒: प्राचु॑च्यवु॒र्यत्किं च॑ त॒न्वो रप॑:
Over all the encompassing barriers they have stepped, like a thief into the fold: the plants have shaken loose whatever harm there is of the body.
Mantra 85
यदि॒मा वा॒जय॑न्न॒हमोष॑धी॒र्हस्त॑ आद॒धे । आ॒त्मा यक्ष्म॑स्य नश्यति पु॒रा जी॑व॒गृभो॑ यथा
If, strengthening (me), I take these plants into my hand, then the very self of wasting disease perisheth, even as the life-seizer of old.
Mantra 86
यस्यौ॑षधीः प्र॒सर्प॒थाङ्ग॑मङ्गं॒ परु॑ष्परुः । ततो॒ यक्ष्मं॒ वि बा॑धध्व उ॒ग्रो म॑ध्यम॒शीरि॑व
Whomsoever the plants pervade, limb by limb, joint by joint,—from him drive ye away wasting disease, as a fierce midmost shaft (cleaveth).
Mantra 87
सा॒कं य॑क्ष्म॒ प्र प॑त॒ चाषे॑ण किकिदी॒विना॑ । सा॒कं वात॑स्य॒ ध्राज्या॑ सा॒कं न॑श्य नि॒हाक॑या
Together with the wasting disease, fly thou forth—with the cāṣa, with the kikidīvin; together with the wind’s rushing blast, together vanish with the mist.
Mantra 88
अ॒न्या वो॑ अ॒न्याम॑वत्व॒न्यान्यस्या॒ उपा॑वत । ताः सर्वा॑: संविदा॒ना इ॒दं मे॒ प्राव॑ता॒ वच॑: ॥
Let one of you aid another; let one give help unto another. All ye, being of one accord, have furthered this my utterance.
Mantra 89
याः फ॒लिनी॒र्या अ॑फ॒ला अ॑पु॒ष्पा याश्च॑ पु॒ष्पिणी॑: । बृह॒स्पति॑प्रसूता॒स्ता नो॑ मुञ्च॒न्त्वᳪह॑सः ॥
Ye plants that bear fruit, and ye that bear no fruit; ye that are flowerless, and ye that are in flower—impelled by Bṛhaspati, do ye release us from distress.
Mantra 90
मु॒ञ्चन्तु॑ मा शप॒थ्यादथो॑ वरु॒ण्या॒दु॒त । अथो॑ य॒मस्य॒ पड्वी॑शा॒त्सर्व॑स्माद्देवकिल्बि॒षात् ॥
Let them release me from the sin of perjury, and also from Varuṇa’s (bond), yea; and likewise from Yama’s cord, from every offence against the gods.
Mantra 91
अ॒व॒पत॑न्तीरवदन्दि॒व ओष॑धय॒स्परि॑ । यं जी॒वम॒श्नवा॑महै॒ न स रि॑ष्याति॒ पूरु॑षः ॥
The plants, falling down, have come from heaven all around. The life which we may win and eat—thereby that man is not harmed.
Mantra 92
या ओष॑धी॒: सोम॑राज्ञीर्ब॒ह्वीः श॒तवि॑चक्षणाः । तासा॑मसि॒ त्वमु॑त्त॒मारं॒ कामा॑य॒ शᳪ हृ॒दे ॥
The plants that have Soma for their sovereign, many, of a hundredfold discernment—of them thou art the highest, for desire’s fulfilment, for welfare to the heart.
Mantra 93
या ओष॑धी॒: सोम॑राज्ञी॒र्विष्ठि॑ताः पृथि॒वीमनु॑ । बृह॒स्पति॑प्रसूता अस्यै॒ संद॑त्त वी॒र्य॒म्
Ye plants, whose sovereign is King Soma, that stand established over the earth,—impelled by Bṛhaspati, bestow ye upon her this vigour.
Mantra 94
याश्चे॒दमु॑पशृ॒ण्वन्ति॒ याश्च॑ दू॒रं परा॑गताः । सर्वा॑: सं॒गत्य॑ वीरुधोऽस्यै॒ संद॑त्त वी॒र्य॒म्
Both those that hear me here, and those that have departed far away,—all ye plants, assembling together, bestow ye upon her this vigour.
Mantra 95
मा वो॑ रिषत् खनि॒ता यस्मै॑ चा॒हं खना॑मि वः । द्वि॒पाच्चतु॑ष्पाद॒स्माक॒ᳪ सर्व॑मस्त्वनातु॒रम्
Let not the digger harm you, for whomsoever I dig you up. May all that is ours, both biped and quadruped, be free from ailment.
Mantra 96
ओष॑धय॒: सम॑वदन्त॒ सोमे॑न स॒ह राज्ञा॑ । यस्मै॑ कृ॒णोति॑ ब्राह्म॒णस्तᳪ रा॑जन् पारयामसि
The plants spake in concord with King Soma: ‘Him for whom the Brāhman worketh—him, O King, we will carry safely through.’
Mantra 97
ना॒श॒यि॒त्री ब॒लास॒स्यार्श॑स उप॒चिता॑मसि । अथो॑ श॒तस्य॒ यक्ष्मा॑णां पाका॒रोर॑सि॒ नाश॑नी
A destroyer art thou of phlegm, of piles that have grown up; moreover, of a hundred wasting sicknesses thou art the ripener, the destroyer.
Mantra 98
त्वां ग॑न्ध॒र्वा अ॑खनँ॒स्त्वामिन्द्र॒स्त्वां बृह॒स्पति॑: । त्वामो॑षधे॒ सोमो॒ राजा॑ वि॒द्वान् यक्ष्मा॑दमुच्यत
The Gandharvas dug thee forth; Indra dug thee forth; Bṛhaspati dug thee forth. The wise King Soma, O herb, was thereby loosed from wasting sickness.
Mantra 99
सह॑स्व मे॒ अरा॑ती॒: सह॑स्व पृतनाय॒तः । सह॑स्व॒ सर्वं॑ पा॒प्मान॒ᳪ सह॑मानास्योषधे
Overcome for me the malignities; overcome the battling assailant. Overcome all evil and pollution, O herb, for thou art the overcomer.
Mantra 100
दी॒र्घायु॑स्त ओषधे खनि॒ता यस्मै॑ च त्वा॒ खना॑म्य॒हम् । अथो॒ त्वं दी॒र्घायु॑र्भू॒त्वा श॒तव॑ल्शा॒ विरो॑हतात्
Long-lived be thy digger, O herb—both he for whom and I who dig thee up. And do thou, having become long-lived, spring up with a hundred shoots.
Mantra 101
त्वमु॑त्त॒मास्यो॑षधे॒ तव॑ वृ॒क्षा उप॑स्तयः । उप॑स्तिरस्तु॒ सोऽस्माकं॒ यो अ॒स्माँ२ अ॑भि॒दास॑ति
Thou art the most excellent, O herb; thine are the trees for supports. Let that be a support for us against him who would assail us.
Mantra 102
मा मा॑ हिᳪसीज्जनि॒ता यः पृ॑थि॒व्या यो वा॒ दिव॑ᳪ स॒त्यध॑र्मा॒ व्यान॑ट् । यश्चा॒पश्च॒न्द्राः प्र॑थ॒मो ज॒जान॒ कस्मै॑ दे॒वाय॑ ह॒विषा॑ विधेम
Let not the Begetter injure me—he who, of true ordinance, hath pervaded earth, or who hath pervaded yonder heaven; and he who first begat the bright Waters: to what God shall we offer worship with oblation?
Mantra 103
अ॒भ्या व॑र्तस्व पृथिवि य॒ज्ञेन॒ पय॑सा स॒ह । व॒पां ते॑ अ॒ग्निरि॑षि॒तो अ॑रोहत्
Turn thee hither, O Earth, with the Sacrifice, together with the milk-like sap: for thee hath Agni, when impelled, mounted the omentum.
Mantra 104
अग्ने॒ यत्ते॑ शु॒क्रं यच्च॒न्द्रं यत्पू॒तं यच्च॑ य॒ज्ञिय॑म् । तद्दे॒वेभ्यो॑ भरामसि
O Agni, whatsoever of thine is bright, and whatsoever is shining, whatsoever is purified and whatsoever is meet for sacrifice,—that we bring unto the Gods.
Mantra 105
इष॒मूर्ज॑म॒हमि॒त आद॑मृ॒तस्य॒ योनिं॑ महि॒षस्य॒ धारा॑म् । आ मा॒ गोषु॑ विश॒त्वा त॒नूषु॒ जहा॑मि से॒दिमनि॑रा॒ममी॑वाम्
Refreshment and vigour from hence do I take,—the womb of Order, the stream of the Mighty One. Let it enter me in the kine, let it enter in our bodies: I cast away this sickness, unimpaired.
Mantra 106
अग्ने॒ तव॒ श्रवो॒ वयो॒ महि॑ भ्राजन्ते अ॒र्चयो॑ विभावसो । बृह॑द्भानो॒ शव॑सा॒ वाज॑मु॒क्थ्यं दधा॑सि दा॒शुषे॑ कवे
O Agni, thine is the great glory, thine the vital power; thy flames shine forth, O all-illuminating. O thou of mighty splendour, by thy might thou bestowest on the worshipper the prize, worthy to be hymned, O Sage.

पा॒व॒कव॑र्चाः शु॒क्रव॑र्चा॒ अनू॑नवर्चा॒ उदि॑यर्षि भा॒नुना॑ । पु॒त्रो मा॒तरा॑ वि॒चर॒न्नुपा॑वसि पृ॒णक्षि॒ रोद॑सी उ॒भे
Of purifying splendour, of bright splendour, of undiminished splendour, thou springest up with thy beam. As son, moving between the two Mothers, thou abidest near; thou fillest both the worlds.
Mantra 108
ऊर्जो॑ नपाज्जातवेदः सुश॒स्तिभि॒र्मन्द॑स्व धी॒तिभि॑र्हि॒तः । त्वे इष॒: सन्द॑धु॒र्भूरि॑वर्पसश्चि॒त्रोत॑यो वा॒मजा॑ताः
O Jātavedas, offspring of Strength, rejoice thou with well-spoken praises, established by devout thoughts. In thee have they joined the impulses of nourishment—thou of abundant splendour—(they) of manifold succour, born of delight.
Mantra 109
इ॒र॒ज्यन्न॑ग्ने प्रथयस्व ज॒न्तुभि॑र॒स्मे रायो॑ अमर्त्य । स द॑र्श॒तस्य॒ वपु॑षो॒ वि रा॑जसि पृ॒णक्षि॑ सान॒सिं क्रतु॑म्
Eagerly moving, O Agni, spread thyself among the creatures; for us, O Immortal, (spread) riches. Thou shinest forth with form that is fair to see; thou fillest the winning purpose of the rite.
Mantra 110
इ॒ष्क॒र्तार॑मध्व॒रस्य॒ प्रचे॑तसं॒ क्षय॑न्त॒ᳪ राध॑सो म॒हः । रा॒तिं वा॒मस्य॑ सु॒भगां॑ म॒हीमिषं॒ दधा॑सि सान॒सिᳪ र॒यिम्
The maker of nourishment for the sacrifice, the wise one, dwelling in great bounty—thou bestowest the fortunate, vast gift of delight: nourishment, and wealth that bringeth gain.
Mantra 111
ऋ॒तावा॑नं महि॒षं वि॒श्वद॑र्शतम॒ग्निᳪ सु॒म्नाय॑ दधिरे पु॒रो जना॑: । श्रुत्क॑र्णᳪ स॒प्रथ॑स्तमं त्वा गि॒रा दै॑व्यं॒ मानु॑षा यु॒गा
Agni, possessed of ṛta, the mighty one, seen of all—him have the folk set in front for favour. Thee, wide-spreading, with ear that heareth, divine, do human generations (praise) with their speech.
Mantra 112
आ प्या॑यस्व॒ समे॑तु ते वि॒श्वत॑: सोम॒ वृष्ण्य॑म् । भवा॒ वाज॑स्य सङ्ग॒थे
Wax thou, O Soma; from every side let thy manly vigour gather unto thee. Become thou in the assemblage the meeting-place of strength and prize.
Mantra 113
सं ते॒ पया॑ᳪसि॒ समु॑ यन्तु॒ वाजा॒ः सं वृष्ण्या॑न्यभिमाति॒षाह॑ः । आ॒प्याय॑मानो अ॒मृता॑य सोम दि॒वि श्रवा॑ᳪस्युत्त॒मानि॑ धिष्व
Together may thy nourishing juices, together thy prizes of strength, together thy manly powers, O Soma, thou conqueror of assailing foes, come hither. Swelling for immortality, O Soma, set thou for us in heaven the highest renowns.
Mantra 114
आ प्या॑यस्व मदिन्तम॒ सोम॒ विश्वे॑भिर॒ᳪशुभि॑ः । भवा॑ नः स॒प्रथ॑स्तम॒ः सखा॑ वृ॒धे
Increase thou, O Soma, most gladdening, with all thy rays; become thou for us, most widely spreading, a friend unto our increase.
Mantra 115
आ ते॑ व॒त्सो मनो॑ यमत्पर॒माच्चि॑त्स॒धस्था॑त् । अग्ने॒ त्वाङ्का॑मया गि॒रा
Unto thee the mind, like a calf, is guided even from the highest common seat. O Agni, with my speech I long to take thee to my lap.
Mantra 116
तुभ्यं॒ ता अ॑ङ्गिरस्तम॒ विश्वा॑ः सुक्षि॒तय॒ः पृथ॑क् । अग्ने॒ कामा॑य येमिरे
To thee, O most Angiras-like, all prosperous dwellings severally have resorted, O Agni, for the gaining of desire.
Mantra 117
अ॒ग्निः प्रि॒येषु॒ धाम॑सु॒ कामो॑ भू॒तस्य॒ भव्य॑स्य । स॒म्राडेको॒ वि रा॑जति
Agni, in his dear abodes, the Desire of what is and what shall be,—the one universal Sovereign—shines forth in kingly splendour.
It continues Agnicayana, especially brick-laying and Lokampr̥ṇā (space-filling) formulas that complete and stabilize the fire-altar as Agni’s cosmic body.
These are continuity-seals: the rite repeatedly recalls vitality, nourishment, and lifespan so the sacrificer’s gains are not lost between ritual steps and the altar remains securely enlivened.
It asks Varuṇa-Āditya to loosen bonds above, below, and in between—removing constraint and restoring freedom to proceed, showing that right ritual seeks both welfare and release from binding forces.
