Sukta 62

Mantra 1

वयमु त्वामपूर्व्य स्थूरं न कच्चिद् भरन्तोऽवस्यवः । वाजे चित्रं हवामहे

We, craving succour, bearing our gifts, invoke thee indeed, O Unrivalled, the Stout—like none that is anywhere—for splendid aid in the winning of the prize.

Mantra 2

उप त्वा कर्मन्नूतये स नो युवोग्रश्चक्राम यो धृषत्। त्वामिद्ध्यवितारं ववृमहे सखाय इन्द्र सानसिम्

Up unto thee, in the rite, for succour have we advanced—unto the young, the fierce, who dares: thee verily, as comrades, have we chosen for protector, O Indra, thou winner and bestower of gain.

Mantra 3

यो न इदमिदं पुरा प्र वस्य आनिनाय तमु व स्तुषे । सखाय इन्द्रमूतये

He who of old brought hither unto us this boon and that, the better gift,—him verily I laud for you, O comrades: Indra for our succour.

Mantra 4

हर्यश्वं सत्पतिं चर्षणीसहं स हि ष्मा यो अमन्दत । आ तु नः स वयति गव्यमश्व्यं स्तोतृभ्यो मघवा शतम्

The tawny-steeded, the lord of worth, the overcomer of the peoples—he, forsooth, is he who is exhilarated. So may that Bounteous One allot to us, to the praisers, a hundred in kine-wealth and in horse-wealth.

Mantra 5

इन्द्राय साम गायत विप्राय बृहते बृहत्। धर्मकृते विपश्चिते पनस्यवे

Sing ye a Sāman unto Indra—unto the inspired, the great, a lofty strain—unto the maker of Order, the far-seeing, the admirable.

Mantra 6

त्वमिन्द्राभिभूरसि त्वं सूर्यमरोचयः । विश्वकर्मा विश्वदेवो महाँ असि

Thou, Indra, art the overcomer; thou madest the Sun to shine. All-maker, all-god art thou; thou art the Great.

Mantra 7

विभ्राजं ज्योतिषा स्व१रगच्छो रोचनं दिवः । देवास्त इन्द्र सख्याय येमिरे

Shining with light thou wentest to the heaven, to the radiant realm of the sky. The Gods, O Indra, have bound themselves to thee for friendship.

Mantra 8

तम्वभि प्र गायत पुरुहूतं पुरुष्टुतम्। इन्द्रं गीर्भिस्तविषमा विवासत

Sing forth to him, yea, sing toward him—Indra, the much-invoked, the much-lauded; with hymns make the mighty Indra shine forth and draw him hither.

Mantra 9

यस्य द्विबर्हसो बृहत् सहो दाधार रोदसी । गिरींरज्रां अपः स्वऽर्वृषत्वना

Whose great might, lofty and doubly exalted, hath upheld the two worlds—(who) by his bull-like force (hath dealt with) the firm mountain, the waters, and the bright heaven.

Mantra 10

स राजसि पुरुष्टुतं एको वृत्राणि जिघ्नसे । इन्द्र जैत्रा श्रवस्याऽ च यन्तवे

Thou, in the wide realms, O much-lauded, alone dost smite the obstructions: O Indra, victorious and fame-bestowing, (be) for our onward advance.
