Pṛthivī
Reflective, seeking coherence in cycles
‘What is the single reality underlying all recurring cycles—monthly, seasonal, annual—by which beings live and rites are timed?’
All temporal cycles are expressions of the same indwelling Lord.
Align personal discipline with natural cycles (daily, fortnightly, seasonal); use recurring time as a scaffold for sādhana rather than mere passage.
Continuation of Pṛthivī’s praise: the Lord is identified with larger calendric cycles (month, fortnight, day-night, seasons, years).
Calendric cycles are treated as divine embodiment: kāla is not merely measurement but the Lord’s manifest governance; this supports Purāṇic ritual life where vrata/utsava timing mirrors cosmic order.
Month/fortnight/day-night/season/year correspond to the cosmic yajña’s ‘liturgical calendar,’ pacing offerings and observances as if the universe itself performs sacrifice in time.
Kāla as upādhi (conditioning adjunct) through which the One appears as cyclical multiplicity; recognition of the One reduces anxiety about change.
Varāha Purāṇa 113.45–46, 113.48–49 (time and cosmos as the Lord)
It provides a compact list of time divisions used in ritual, agricultural, and administrative contexts across classical South Asia, illustrating the Purāṇic role in preserving calendrical vocabulary.
No location is mentioned; the verse is about temporal structure.
No explicit ethical rule is given; the verse foregrounds cyclical time, a concept that often frames duties as seasonally and contextually appropriate in related literature.
