Himne stava Agni yang singkat ini berfungsi sebagai jimat pelindung dan pemurni: ia menyatakan bahwa Agni tak dapat dilukai oleh bahaya yang “kejam”, dan memakai panasnya yang menembus (tejana) untuk mengusir gangguan yang mencemari—yang menggerogoti, menajiskan, atau halus seperti benang. Dengan memadukan daya pembersih api, daya menghancurkan air, serta kemampuan penuntun dari Vāc (Sabda), himne ini mengarahkan agen-agen berbahaya menuju sebuah “jalan keluar” (niṣkṛti) dan memulihkan vitalitas yang tertata di bawah keteguhan surya

अग्निस्तवः। न॒हि ते॑ अग्ने त॒न्वः क्रू॒रमा॒नंश॒ मर्त्यः॑ । क॒पिर्ब॑भस्ति॒ तेज॑नं॒ स्वं ज॒रायु॒ गौरि॑व
Pujian bagi Agni. Sebab tiada seorang fana pun, wahai Agni, pernah mencapai bahaya yang kejam terhadap tubuhmu. Yang kuning-kemerahan itu memancarkan ketajaman cahayanya sendiri, seperti sapi (mengeluarkan) ari-ari.

मे॒ष इ॑व॒ वै सं च॒ वि चो॒र्व॒ऽच्यसे॒ यदु॑त्तर॒द्रावुप॑रश्च॒ खाद॑तः । शी॒र्ष्णा शिरोऽप्स॒साप्सो॑ अ॒र्दय॑न्नं॒शून् ब॑भस्ति॒ हरि॑तेभिरा॒सभिः॑
Seperti seekor domba jantan, sungguh engkau dihantam hingga bertemu dan dihalau hingga tercerai, ketika engkau lari naik dan mengerat dari atas. Dengan kepala ia menghantam kepala; dengan air—wahai para Air—saat menghancurkan (engkau), ia menginjak-injak serabutmu dengan rahang kuning keemasan

सु॒प॒र्णा वाच॑मक्र॒तोप॒ द्यव्या॑ख॒रे कृष्णा॑ इषि॒रा अ॑नर्तिषुः । नि यन्नि॒यन्त्युप॑रस्य॒ निष्कृ॑तिं पु॒रू रेतो॑ दधिरे सूर्य॒श्रितः॑
The fair-winged made speech; upon the heavenly hollow the black, the swift, bestirred themselves in dance. When they lead down the upper one’s outlet, much seed they have deposited, resting upon the Sun.
