The Genealogy of the Pitṛs and the Determination of Śrāddha Times
Unspecified (default framework: Pṛthivī as inquirer addressing Varāha as instructor)
It exemplifies a common Purāṇic narrative technique: an inquirer addresses an authoritative teacher with a direct request for instruction, framing the ethical or doctrinal teaching that follows.
The verse names Kauśyā and Vṛṣyā as locations; without further contextual verses, a secure modern identification cannot be stated, but they function as narrative toponyms anchoring the dialogue in a specific setting.
The verse itself is preparatory: it foregrounds the seeker’s posture of inquiry and the expectation of guidance from a learned authority, setting up the ethical or practical instruction in subsequent verses.
