J’ai puisé les Eaux célestes ; de leur essence nous nous sommes entièrement aspergés. Ô Agni, viens ici avec ce qui est lacté ; fais-le entrer tout entier en moi, avec éclat.

सं मा॑ग्ने॒ वर्च॑सा सृज॒ सं प्र॒जया॒ समायु॑षा । वि॒द्युर्मे॑ अ॒स्य दे॒वा इन्द्रो॑ विद्यात् सह ऋषि॑भिः
Unis-moi, ô Agni, à l’éclat; unis-moi à la descendance, unis-moi à la longue vie. Que les dieux en prennent connaissance à mon sujet; qu’Indra le sache, avec les rishis.
Mantra 3
इ॒दमा॑पः॒ प्र व॑हताव॒द्यं च॒ मलं॑ च॒ यत्। यच्चा॑भिदु॒द्रोहानृ॑तं॒ यच्च॑ शे॒पे अ॒भीरु॑णम्
Ceci, ô Eaux, emportez-le au loin — toute faute et toute souillure qu’il y a; et tout mensonge, toute perfidie injuste, et ce qu’il y a d’effrayant dans la malédiction ou le serment.
Mantra 4
एधो॑ऽस्येधिषी॒य स॒मिद॑सि॒ समे॑धिषीय । तेजो॑ऽसि॒ तेजो॒ मयि॑ धेहि
Tu es le combustible : puissé-je être allumé. Tu es l’allume-feu : puissé-je être bien allumé. Tu es splendeur : dépose en moi la splendeur.
It is used to increase and stabilize personal radiance (varchas/tejas), prosperity through continuity/offspring (prajā), and long life (āyus), especially when one feels depleted or wants strengthened presence and health.
Agni performs the transfer of vitality, while Indra and the All-Gods function as witnesses who ‘know’ the boon, a ritual way of confirming it so the gained strength and status are not reversed or taken away.
This sukta primarily works with water (for sprinkling) and the fire with fuel/kindling. Herbs and amulets are not required by the hymn’s wording; the key act is the recitation with water-purification and the tejas-transfer at the fire.
