Ce bref hymne de deux mantras est un charme de protection et de prospérité pour le bétail : il assure les vaches sur le chemin du pâturage et au lieu d’abreuvement, et il fortifie l’étable ainsi que le siège domestique. Rudra y est invoqué non comme destructeur, mais comme gardien vigilant dont le « projectile » trace un périmètre apotropaïque ; les Eaux et les Déesses bienveillantes sont priées de purifier, d’oindre et de renforcer le troupeau et le domaine du maître.

अघ्न्याः। प्र॒जाव॑तीः सू॒यव॑से रु॒शन्तीः॑ शु॒द्धा अ॒पः सु॑प्रपा॒णे पिब॑न्तीः । मा व॑ स्ते॒न ई॑शत॒ माघशं॑सः॒ परि॑ वो रु॒द्रस्य॑ हे॒तिर्वृ॑णक्तु
Ô inviolables (aghnīyāḥ), riches de descendance, resplendissantes quand vous allez vers le bon pâturage, pures, buvant les Eaux au bel abreuvoir — qu’aucun voleur n’ait pouvoir sur vous, ni le calomniateur à la langue mauvaise ; tout autour de vous, que le trait de Rudra choisisse sa garde.

प॒द॒ज्ञा स्थ॒ रम॑तयः॒ संहि॑ता वि॒श्वना॑म्नीः । उप॑ मा देवीर्दे॒वेभि॒रेत॑ । इ॒मं गो॒ष्ठमि॒दं सदो॑ घृ॒तेना॒स्मान्त्समु॑क्षत
Vous qui connaissez les traces (padajñā), gracieuses, unies, portant tous les noms — venez vers moi, ô Déesses, avec les Dieux. Ce parc à bétail, ce siège qui est le nôtre, aspergez-le de ghee ; et nous, par une aspersion abondante, fortifiez-nous.
