Sukta 3
स॒ह॒स्रा॒ह्ण्यं विय॑तावस्य प॒क्षौ हरे॑र्हं॒सस्य॒ पत॑तः स्व॒र्गम्। स दे॒वान्त्सर्वा॒नुर॑स्युप॒दद्य॑ सं॒पश्य॑न् याति॒ भुव॑नानि॒ विश्वा॒ तस्य॑ दे॒वस्य॑। क्रु॒द्धस्यै॒तदागो॒ य ए॒वं वि॒द्वांसं॑ ब्राह्म॒णं जि॒नाति॑ । उद् वे॑पय रोहित॒ प्र क्षि॑णीहि ब्रह्म॒ज्यस्य॒ प्रति॑ मुञ्च॒ पाशा॑न्
sahasrā́hṇyaṃ víyatāvasya pákṣau háreḥ haṃsásya pátataḥ svargám | sá devā́n sárvān urásy úpadádya saṃpáśyan yāti bhúvanāni víśvā tásya devásya | kruddhásyaitád ā́go yá eváṃ vidvā́ṃsaṃ brāhmaṇáṃ jinā́ti | úd vepaya rohita prá kṣiṇīhi brahmajyásya práti muñca pāśā́n
A thousand-day might are the wings of the wide-stretching—of Hari’s haṃsa flying heavenward. Setting all the gods within his breast, surveying, he goes through all the worlds. This is the offence against that god when wrathful—whoso thus overmasters a knowing Brahmin. Up, make him tremble, O Rohita; waste him away: against the brahma-slayer loose forth the nooses.
La puissance de mille jours est les deux ailes de l’Immense étendu, du haṃsa de Hari qui vole vers le ciel. Portant en sa poitrine tous les dieux, voyant tout, il traverse tous les mondes — de ce dieu. Telle est la faute envers ce dieu lorsqu’il est courroucé : quiconque ainsi maîtrise un brahmane sachant. Debout, fais-le trembler, ô Rohita ; dessèche-le ; contre le brahmajya (meurtrier d’un brahmane), relâche les liens.
