Sukta 9.64
O Soma, separately/abundantly for our well-being, coming together as the seer from heaven, flow purified—be a Sun for the seeing.
Soma is invoked to purify itself and become ‘Sūrya for vision’: delight transmuted into illumination that makes inner perception true. ‘Divaḥ kaviḥ’—the seer from the heaven—suggests a descent of supramental/overmental insight into mind through the channel of purified Ananda. ‘Svastaye’ indicates the integrative good-being that comes when vision is lit from above: not mere mental clarity but a luminous seeing aligned with truth.
When delight is purified and unified with higher insight, it becomes light for discernment: well-being arises from seeing truly.
illumined vision, well-being, Soma as Sun, truth-seeing
Pavamāna line emphasizing Soma’s culmination: Ananda becomes illumination (Sūrya) and seer-knowledge (kavi) for the human instrument.
A classic Aurobindonian pivot: Soma (Ananda) is not separate from light; purified delight becomes the very Sun of inner sight, bringing ‘svasti’ as a spiritual harmony.
Mediator between bliss and light—turning the nectar into a sunlike revelation in the worlds.
Illumined Ananda that awakens direct seeing and establishes well-being through truth-perception.
Pavamāna Soma sequence; invocation for purified flow and luminous result

Ascending and clarifying; culminates in a bright closure on ‘sūryo dṛśe’.
Often produces a felt ‘clearing’ in the brow and eyes; the ending phrase can be chanted as a luminous seal.
Culminating purification request: Soma to shine for vision; in rite, Soma becomes radiant offering; in inner rite, illumination of consciousness.
At points emphasizing Soma’s clarified flow and its bestowal of sight/illumination to the sacrificer.
Recited as Soma is filtered and presented; the ‘sun for vision’ aligns the rite with revelation.
Daily practice for clarity: chant before meditation, decision-making, or study; set intention: ‘let delight become light for my seeing’.
svasti from su ‘good’ + asti ‘being’ (√as ‘to be’) → well-being as right existence. saṃ-√gam ‘come together’ (jagmānaḥ is perf./intensive movement form from √gam ‘go’). div (divaḥ) from √div ‘shine’/‘sky’. sūrya from √svar/√sūr ‘shine’ (solar radiance). dṛśe from √dṛś ‘see’ (PIE *derk- ‘see’ is a common comparison).
svasti (right-being), heaven (div) as luminous plane, vision (dṛś) as inner seeing, Soma-Sūrya transformation (delight becoming illumination)
Sūrya-for-dṛś is the revealer of R̥ta; purified Soma becomes the instrument of that revelation in the human.
Seeing (dṛś) is a mode of Satya—direct truth, not inference.
From heaven the seer-power descends; bliss becomes light and organizes manifestation.
Vedāntic-gnostic trajectory: ānanda → jyotis → jñāna (bliss → light → knowledge).
dawn-to-sunrise (suggested by Sūrya-for-vision)
Sun = inner illumination; heaven = higher mind; Soma flow = purified delight-current becoming light in perception.
Convert delight into seeing: rest in a subtle sweetness in the heart, then lift it to the brow as a quiet light.
ājñā
Inhale imagining Soma as a cool white stream up the spine; exhale imagining a warm golden sun spreading behind the forehead; 9 cycles.
Clear, luminous, quietly joyful witnessing.
Do not strain for visions. Purify the emotional current first (pavasva). Then let insight arise naturally as ‘sūryo dṛśe’—a steady light that improves discernment and brings svasti (inner harmony).
Mixed udātta/anudātta/svarita; exact accents require a svara-marked RV text.
Give a clear, bright emphasis to ‘pavasva sūryo dṛśe’ as the mantra’s culminating seal; keep ‘divaḥ kaviḥ’ steady and elevated in tone.
ṛdhak: vocalic ‘ṛ’ careful; final ‘k’ crisp, svastaye: ‘sv’ cluster clean; long ‘e’ at end, saṃjagmānaḥ: nasal ‘ṃ’ before ‘j’; long ‘ā’, divaḥ: dental ‘d’; visarga soft, pavasva: ‘v’ not ‘b’; short vowels, sūryo: long ‘ū’; ‘ry’ cluster, dṛśe: vocalic ‘ṛ’; palatal ‘ś’
Warm, luminous, steady; slightly brighter on ‘sūryo’.
