Este breve himno de alabanza a Agni funciona como un encantamiento protector y purificador: proclama la invulnerabilidad de Agni frente al daño «cruel» y, con su calor penetrante (tejana), expulsa aflicciones contaminantes, roedoras o semejantes a hilos. Al combinar la fuerza limpiadora del fuego con el poder aplastante de las aguas y la capacidad orientadora de Vāc, dirige las agencias dañinas hacia una «salida» (niṣkṛti) y restituye una vitalidad ordenada bajo la firmeza solar.

अग्निस्तवः। न॒हि ते॑ अग्ने त॒न्वः क्रू॒रमा॒नंश॒ मर्त्यः॑ । क॒पिर्ब॑भस्ति॒ तेज॑नं॒ स्वं ज॒रायु॒ गौरि॑व
Alabanza a Agni. Pues ningún mortal, oh Agni, ha alcanzado el daño cruel contra tu cuerpo. El de color leonado fulgura con su propio resplandor agudo, como una vaca (expulsa) la placenta.

मे॒ष इ॑व॒ वै सं च॒ वि चो॒र्व॒ऽच्यसे॒ यदु॑त्तर॒द्रावुप॑रश्च॒ खाद॑तः । शी॒र्ष्णा शिरोऽप्स॒साप्सो॑ अ॒र्दय॑न्नं॒शून् ब॑भस्ति॒ हरि॑तेभिरा॒सभिः॑
Como un carnero, en verdad, eres arremetido y luego separado, cuando, huyendo hacia arriba, roes desde lo alto. Con la cabeza golpea la cabeza; con las aguas —oh Aguas— triturándote, pisa tus filamentos con mandíbulas leonadas.

Los de bellas alas formaron la Palabra; sobre la cavidad celeste los negros, los veloces, se agitaron en danza. Cuando hacen descender la salida del de arriba, han depositado mucha semilla, reposando en el Sol.
