Rishi: Traditionally RV-derived; in AV 20 the material is largely Rigvedic reprise (Anukramaṇī attribution follows the RV hymn-source).
Devata: Indra
It is used to push away enemies or hostile forces from all directions and to establish the patron in Indra’s broad protection, ending with the removal of hatred and the gaining of concord.
The Aśvins’ drinking with Namuci and their aiding Indra functions as a mythic precedent: it assures that divine help can overcome difficult, even demonic, opposition in the present situation.
No required substances are stated for its basic recitation. Surā appears only in the mythic narration; the hymn’s efficacy is primarily through recitation and the directional expulsion intent.
