Soma Pavamāna
This short Pavamāna Soma hymn invokes the purified Soma to flow toward the sacrificers in a strong stream, bringing broad rayi (plenitude) and the knowing of Light. It portrays Soma (Indu) as a forward-driving force that empowers the seer for victorious action while establishing beings in dharma through his purifying vow.
Mantra 1
Flow to us in your stream, O Pavamāna, bringing a wide rayi—fullness of being—by which you make us know the Light.
Mantra 2
O Indu, set the ocean of being into motion; flow and make all things tremble awake. By your strength become for us the bearer of plenitude (rāyas).
Mantra 3
With you, O hero-force, may we become heroic and prevail over the fighters; pour out upon us the choicest treasure—what must be won by the soul.
Mantra 4
Indu presses forward toward the plenitude of force (vāja); desiring that strength, the seer—winner of vāja—knowing the laws, arms himself for the work.
Mantra 5
Him we clothe with our inspired chants—Soma, the Purifier who sets the Word in movement; we establish him as the lord and guardian of the people’s rays of Light (the ‘cows’ of knowledge).
Mantra 6
All peoples uphold themselves within his law—within the vow of the Lord of the Dharma; for he, the Purifier, is the abundant master of plenitude.
The hymn praises Soma Pavamāna—Soma as he is being purified and made luminous while flowing through the filter during the Soma rite.
It asks Soma to flow to the worshippers bringing broad rayi (plenitude/prosperity) and to help them know jyotis (Light), along with strength for successful action.
Because Soma’s purification is seen as establishing right order: his ‘vow’ (vrata) supports beings in a lawful pattern of life, so abundance and power arise in harmony with dharma.
