Soma Pavamāna
This short Pavamāna hymn praises Soma as he flows over the purifier (pavitra), becoming bright and powerful through the act of cleansing. As the inspired “kavi,” Soma drives away crookedness and harm, seeks the radiant “herds” (rays/wealth), and hastens through the mid-region toward Indra to empower victorious divine action.
Mantra 1
This seer, well praised, delights upon the purifier; purifying himself, he smites away the powers of crookedness and harm.
Mantra 2
This one is poured around in the purifier for Indra and for Vāyu, a winner of the luminous world, accomplishing power and right skill.
Mantra 3
This Soma, pressed out as the Bull-force, is led forth by the human powers; he becomes the head and summit of the heaven within, and in the inner forests of our being he is the knower and finder of all.
Mantra 4
This purifying Indu cries out as the seeker of the luminous herds; yearning for the golden light, he is the unfailing conqueror in the continuous battle.
Mantra 5
This Soma, while purifying, laughs with the Sun upon the heaven of the mind; upon the filter he becomes the rapture and intoxication—ecstasy that drives toward the Truth.
Mantra 6
This mighty one speeds and presses forward in the mid-region, the Bull, the tawny force; the purifying Indu moves toward Indra, to strengthen the lord of luminous power within us.
It praises Soma while he is being purified on the filter, becoming bright and strong, removing harmful forces, and then moving to empower Indra.
Because Soma is portrayed as possessing inspired discernment—his purification symbolizes clarity that can detect and drive away crookedness and harm.
It is recited during Soma-pressing rites, especially at the moment the juice flows through the pavitra, before being offered—often with Indra as a key recipient.
