Sukta 90

Mantra 1

आ नो विश्वासु हव्य इन्द्रः समत्सु भूषतु । उप ब्रह्माणि सवनानि वृत्रहा परमज्या ऋचीषमः ॥

May Indra, the power to be invoked, come to us in all our battles; let the slayer of the Coverer draw near to our mantras and our pressings. Supreme in onset, master of the seer-word, may he take his seat within our offering.

Mantra 2

त्वं दाता प्रथमो राधसामस्यसि सत्य ईशानकृत् । तुविद्युम्नस्य युज्या वृणीमहे पुत्रस्य शवसो महः ॥

You are the first giver of fulfillments; you are the true lord who makes mastery. We choose the yoking to your abundant luminous power—the great force of your sonhood that increases might within us.

Mantra 3

ब्रह्मा त इन्द्र गिर्वणः क्रियन्ते अनतिद्भुता । इमा जुषस्व हर्यश्व योजनेन्द्र या ते अमन्महि ॥

The mantras are fashioned for you, O Indra who delights in the word—wondrous beyond diminishment. Accept these, O tawny-horsed one, these yokes of force for your journey, which we have held in intention for you.

Mantra 4

त्वं हि सत्यो मघवन्ननानतो वृत्रा भूरि न्यृञ्जसे । स त्वं शविष्ठ वज्रहस्त दाशुषेऽर्वाञ्चं रयिमा कृधि ॥

For you are the true one, O bountiful; never bending back, you strike down many obstructions. Therefore, O most forceful, thunder-weaponed, for the giver of offering make the wealth come near—make the fullness of being approach us.

Mantra 5

त्वमिन्द्र यशा अस्यृजीषी शवसस्पते । त्वं वृत्राणि हंस्यप्रतीन्येक इदनुत्ता चर्षणीधृता ॥

You, O Indra, are the glory; the straight-driving lord of force. You alone slay the obstructions that cannot be faced; unsurpassed, you uphold the peoples—upholding in us the human field for the Truth’s victory.

Mantra 6

तमु त्वा नूनमसुर प्रचेतसं राधो भागमिवेमहे । महीव कृत्तिः शरणा त इन्द्र प्र ते सुम्ना नो अश्नवन् ॥

Now we seek you indeed, O Asura of wide perception, as one seeks a share of fulfilment. Like a vast sheltering mantle is your protection, O Indra; may your gracious harmonies reach us and be attained by us.
