Sukta 95

Mantra 1

प्र क्षोदसा धायसा सस्र एषा सरस्वती धरुणमायसी पूः । प्रबाबधाना रथ्येव याति विश्वा अपो महिना सिन्धुरन्याः ॥

Forward she rushes with impelling force and sustaining power—this Sarasvatī, the iron-founded fullness; pressing onward like a chariot on its way, by her greatness she surpasses all other waters.

Mantra 2

एकाचेतत्सरस्वती नदीनां शुचिर्यती गिरिभ्य आ समुद्रात् । रायश्चेतन्ती भुवनस्य भूरेर्घृतं पयो दुदुहे नाहुषाय ॥

Alone she awakens as the conscious one among the rivers, pure in her movement from the mountains to the sea; knowing the riches of the wide world, she milks out clarified delight and nourishing fullness for the human seeker.

Mantra 3

स वावृधे नर्यो योषणासु वृषा शिशुर्वृषभो यज्ञियासु । स वाजिनं मघवद्भ्यो दधाति वि सातये तन्वं मामृजीत ॥

He grows in strength among the energies of becoming: a bull, yet a child; a strong bull among the sacred workings. He gives the plenitude of force to the generous, and for victory he refines and shapes the body of our being.

Mantra 4

उत स्या नः सरस्वती जुषाणोप श्रवत्सुभगा यज्णे अस्मिन् । मितज्ञुभिर्नमस्यैरियाना राया युजा चिदुत्तरा सखिभ्यः ॥

And may she—Sarasvatī—graciously consenting, the bearer of good fortune, hear us and draw near in this sacrifice; moving with our measured knowers and acts of reverence, may she become the higher (uplifting) power for our comrades, even by the yoking of her abundance (rāyā).

Mantra 5

इमा जुह्वाना युष्मदा नमोभिः प्रति स्तोमं सरस्वति जुषस्व । तव शर्मन्प्रियतमे दधाना उप स्थेयाम शरणं न वृक्षम् ॥

We, offering with uplifted hands from you and with our reverence, receive our hymn, O Sarasvatī; take delight in it. Holding fast to your most beloved sheltering peace, may we draw near and stand with you, as one stands by a tree for refuge.

Mantra 6

अयमु ते सरस्वति वसिष्ठो द्वारावृतस्य सुभगे व्यावः । वर्ध शुभ्रे स्तुवते रासि वाजान्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

This Vasiṣṭha here, O Sarasvatī, O fortunate one, has opened wide the doors of the Truth. Increase, O pure one; give to the one who praises the plenitudes of force. And may you protect us always with harmonies of well-being.
