Sukta 62

Mantra 1

उत्सूर्यो बृहदर्चींष्यश्रेत्पुरु विश्वा जनिम मानुषाणाम् । समो दिवा ददृशे रोचमानः क्रत्वा कृतः सुकृतः कर्तृभिर्भूत् ॥

Up rises the Sun, spreading his vast rays; he looks upon the many births and all the becoming of men. Equal in the day, he is seen shining; formed by the working will, he becomes a perfect making through the doers.

Mantra 2

स सूर्य प्रति पुरो न उद्गा एभिः स्तोमेभिरेतशेभिरेवैः । प्र नो मित्राय वरुणाय वोचोऽनागसो अर्यम्णे अग्नये च ॥

O Sun, sing out before us, in front, with these swift-moving hymns and impulsions. And let our word go forth to Mitra, to Varuṇa, to Aryaman, and to Agni—so that we may be without fault and walk in the right order.

Mantra 3

वि नः सहस्रं शुरुधो रदन्त्वृतावानो वरुणो मित्रो अग्निः । यच्छन्तु चन्द्रा उपमं नो अर्कमा नः कामं पूपुरन्तु स्तवानाः ॥

Let the thousand barriers be broken open for us—by Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni who are possessors of ṛta. Let the shining powers grant to us a supreme hymn of light; and praised by us, may they fill our desire—our true will of fulfillment.

Mantra 4

द्यावाभूमी अदिते त्रासीथां नो ये वां जज्ञुः सुजनिमान ऋष्वे । मा हेळे भूम वरुणस्य वायोर्मा मित्रस्य प्रियतमस्य नृणाम् ॥

O Heaven and Earth, O Aditi, protect us—us who have come to birth in your noble becoming. May we not fall into the wrath of Varuṇa, nor into the displeasure of Vāyu; nor into the hurt of Mitra, most dear to men.

Mantra 5

प्र बाहवा सिसृतं जीवसे न आ नो गव्यूतिमुक्षतं घृतेन । आ नो जने श्रवयतं युवाना श्रुतं मे मित्रावरुणा हवेमा ॥

Stretch out your arms forward for our living; pour upon us the path of luminous herds with the clarified richness. Make our name heard among men, O you youthful powers; hear this call of mine, O Mitra and Varuṇa, in the act of invocation.

Mantra 6

नू मित्रो वरुणो अर्यमा नस्त्मने तोकाय वरिवो दधन्तु । सुगा नो विश्वा सुपथानि सन्तु यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

Now may Mitra, Varuṇa, and Aryaman establish for us a wide freedom—for our self and for our offspring-being. May all our goings be easy, all our paths be good to travel; guard us always with your powers of well-being.
