Sukta 25

Mantra 1

आ ते मह इन्द्रोत्युग्र समन्यवो यत्समरन्त सेनाः । पताति दिद्युन्नर्यस्य बाह्वोर्मा ते मनो विष्वद्र्यग्वि चारीत् ॥

To thy great help, O Indra, O formidable, the battle-hosts gather in one ardour when they close for the encounter. The lightning of the heroic one leaps from his arms; let not thy mind range scattered in all directions.

Mantra 2

नि दुर्ग इन्द्र श्नथिह्यमित्राँ अभि ये नो मर्तासो अमन्ति । आरे तं शंसं कृणुहि निनित्सोरा नो भर सम्भरणं वसूनाम् ॥

In the hard passage, O Indra, crush the hostile powers—those mortals who would press upon us and diminish us. Put far away that cry of the reviler; bring to us the gathering-together of the riches, the collected plenitudes of being.

Mantra 3

शतं ते शिप्रिन्नूतयः सुदासे सहस्रं शंसा उत रातिरस्तु । जहि वधर्वनुषो मर्त्यस्यास्मे द्युम्नमधि रत्नं च धेहि ॥

A hundred be thy helps, O Śiprin, for the good giver; a thousand be the words of praise and let there be thy giving. Smite the weapon of the mortal who seeks to wound; and in us set luminous power and the treasure.

Mantra 4

त्वावतो हीन्द्र क्रत्वे अस्मि त्वावतोऽवितुः शूर रातौ । विश्वेदहानि तविषीव उग्रँ ओकः कृणुष्व हरिवो न मर्धीः ॥

For I am thine in will, O Indra; thine in the saving protection, O hero, in the giving. Through all the days, O mighty one, make for us a strong dwelling-place, O Hariva; do not fail us.

Mantra 5

कुत्सा एते हर्यश्वाय शूषमिन्द्रे सहो देवजूतमियानाः । सत्रा कृधि सुहना शूर वृत्रा वयं तरुत्राः सनुयाम वाजम् ॥

These impulses are for the tawny-steeded, for Indra—powers driven by the gods, moving to the might. Make us always good slayers, O hero, of the coverers; that we, overcoming, may win the plenitude of force.

Mantra 6

एवा न इन्द्र वार्यस्य पूर्धि प्र ते महीं सुमतिं वेविदाम । इषं पिन्व मघवद्भ्यः सुवीरां यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

So, O Indra, fulfil for us the choicest plenitude; may we win and hold your vast right-mindedness. Increase the impulsion of force for the bountiful seekers, rich in heroic energies; and do you guard us always with states of well-being.
