Sukta 24

Mantra 1

योनिष्ट इन्द्र सदने अकारि तमा नृभिः पुरुहूत प्र याहि । असो यथा नोऽविता वृधे च ददो वसूनि ममदश्च सोमैः ॥

A seat, a womb of thy manifestation, is made ready in the dwelling, O Indra; come forth to it with the human powers, O thou of many calls. So mayest thou be our guardian for our growth, giving the riches of being, and taking delight in the Soma-raptures.

Mantra 2

गृभीतं ते मन इन्द्र द्विबर्हाः सुतः सोमः परिषिक्ता मधूनि । विसृष्टधेना भरते सुवृक्तिरियमिन्द्रं जोहुवती मनीषा ॥

O Indra, thy mind is held and fastened by the Soma pressed with its double strength, its honeyed essences poured all around. This well-fashioned speech, releasing the streams of abundance, bears itself forward—this illumined thought invoking Indra for the rapture and the increase.

Mantra 3

आ नो दिव आ पृथिव्या ऋजीषिन्निदं बर्हिः सोमपेयाय याहि । वहन्तु त्वा हरयो मद्र्यञ्चमाङ्गूषमच्छा तवसं मदाय ॥

Come to us from heaven and from earth, O Ṛjīṣin; come to this seat of offering for the drinking of Soma. Let thy tawny steeds bear thee hither, to the inspired chant, thee the strong, for the ecstasy.

Mantra 4

आ नो विश्वाभिरूतिभिः सजोषा ब्रह्म जुषाणो हर्यश्व याहि । वरीवृजत्स्थविरेभिः सुशिप्रास्मे दधद्वृषणं शुष्ममिन्द्र ॥

Come to us with all thy helps in glad accord, O Indra of the tawny steeds, taking delight in the sacred word. Making wide room with the strong ones, O fair-lipped, establish in us the bull-like force, the impetuous might, O Indra.

Mantra 5

एष स्तोमो मह उग्राय वाहे धुरीवात्यो न वाजयन्नधायि । इन्द्र त्वायमर्क ईट्टे वसूनां दिवीव द्यामधि नः श्रोमतं धाः ॥

This hymn is set for the great and formidable, for the bearer—like a yoked steed driving for the plenitude of force it has been established. O Indra, this chant prays to thee for the riches; set for us the hearing that is high as heaven itself, a fame that stands on the luminous plane.

Mantra 6

एवा न इन्द्र वार्यस्य पूर्धि प्र ते महीं सुमतिं वेविदाम । इषं पिन्व मघवद्भ्यः सुवीरां यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

So, O Indra, fill for us the choicest plenitudes; we would win thy vast right-mindedness. Increase the impulsion for the givers, rich in heroic energies; and do you guard us always with your states of well-being.
