Sukta 101

Mantra 1

तिस्रो वाचः प्र वद ज्योतिरग्रा या एतद्दुह्रे मधुदोघमूधः । स वत्सं कृण्वन्गर्भमोषधीनां सद्यो जातो वृषभो रोरवीति ॥

Utter forth the threefold Word, whose front is Light; they milk from this the honey-yielding udder. He, the Bull, newly born, at once makes the calf that is the embryo of the plants, and he bellows.

Mantra 2

यो वर्धन ओषधीनां यो अपां यो विश्वस्य जगतो देव ईशे । स त्रिधातु शरणं शर्म यंसत्त्रिवर्तु ज्योतिः स्वभिष्ट्यस्मे ॥

He who is the increaser of the plants, who is lord of the waters, who as a god rules all that moves—may he grant us the threefold-founded refuge and bliss; may he set in us the Light that turns in three movements, the good attainment.

Mantra 3

स्तरीरु त्वद्भवति सूत उ त्वद्यथावशं तन्वं चक्र एषः । पितुः पयः प्रति गृभ्णाति माता तेन पिता वर्धते तेन पुत्रः ॥

The outspread (world) comes to be from thee; from thee the birth is delivered; by thy will this one fashioned the body. The Mother receives the Father’s milk; by that the Father grows, by that the Son grows.

Mantra 4

यस्मिन्विश्वानि भुवनानि तस्थुस्तिस्रो द्यावस्त्रेधा सस्रुरापः । त्रयः कोशास उपसेचनासो मध्वः श्चोतन्त्यभितो विरप्शम् ॥

In whom all the worlds are set firm; the three heavens, and the waters run in a triple way. Three vessels, for pouring near, drip sweetness on every side upon the broad-form.

Mantra 5

इदं वचः पर्जन्याय स्वराजे हृदो अस्त्वन्तरं तज्जुजोषत् । मयोभुवो वृष्टयः सन्त्वस्मे सुपिप्पला ओषधीर्देवगोपाः ॥

This word is for Parjanya, the self-king: let it be within the heart; may he accept it. May the rains that bring delight be for us; may the plants be well-fruited, guarded by the gods.

Mantra 6

स रेतोधा वृषभः शश्वतीनां तस्मिन्नात्मा जगतस्तस्थुषश्च । तन्म ऋतं पातु शतशारदाय यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

He, the seed-holder, the Bull of the eternities; in him is the self of all that moves and stands. May that R̥ta protect me for a hundred autumns; and may you protect us always with your harmonies.
