Sukta 64

Mantra 1

उदु श्रिय उषसो रोचमाना अस्थुरपां नोर्मयो रुशन्तः । कृणोति विश्वा सुपथा सुगान्यभूदु वस्वी दक्षिणा मघोनी ॥

Up rise the Dawns in their glory, shining forth, like bright waves of waters; they make all paths good to go upon. And the rich giving (Dakṣiṇā) has come into being—abundant, bountiful—so the soul may advance in the right-going way.

Mantra 2

भद्रा ददृक्ष उर्विया वि भास्युत्ते शोचिर्भानवो द्यामपप्तन् । आविर्वक्षः कृणुषे शुम्भमानोषो देवि रोचमाना महोभिः ॥

Auspicious Dawn, wide in thy vastness, thou art seen and thou shinest forth; thy flame and thy rays leap up and run to the heaven. Thou makest thy breast manifest, self-adorned; O goddess Uṣas, luminous, shining by thy great powers.

Mantra 3

वहन्ति सीमरुणासो रुशन्तो गावः सुभगामुर्विया प्रथानाम् । अपेजते शूरो अस्तेव शत्रून्बाधते तमो अजिरो न वोळ्हा ॥

The ruddy, shining Cows (rays) bear her onward—her, the fortunate one, spreading wide. Like a hero with the bow, she drives off the adversaries; she smites the darkness, swift as a charioteer who bears (the car).

Mantra 4

सुगोत ते सुपथा पर्वतेष्ववाते अपस्तरसि स्वभानो । सा न आ वह पृथुयामन्नृष्वे रयिं दिवो दुहितरिषयध्यै ॥

Fair-going are thy paths, good are thy roads even on the mountains; self-luminous, thou passest over the waters and the winds. Do thou then bring to us, O wide-moving and lofty one, the rayi—the fullness from Heaven’s Daughter—for our increase and impulsion.

Mantra 5

सा वह योक्षभिरवातोषो वरं वहसि जोषमनु । त्वं दिवो दुहितर्या ह देवी पूर्वहूतौ मंहना दर्शता भूः ॥

Bring her hither with thy steeds, O Dawn; thou carriest the choice boon in accordance with delight. Thou art the Daughter of Heaven, the goddess who, invoked from of old, becomes bountiful and visible to our seeing.

Mantra 6

उत्ते वयश्चिद्वसतेरपप्तन्नरश्च ये पितुभाजो व्युष्टौ । अमा सते वहसि भूरि वाममुषो देवि दाशुषे मर्त्याय ॥

At thy uprising even the birds have flown forth from their dwelling, and men who share the food (of life) have stirred at the dawning. Present here, thou bearest abundant delight and good for the mortal who gives (offers) to thee, O goddess Dawn.
