Sukta 5

Mantra 1

हुवे वः सूनुं सहसो युवानमद्रोघवाचं मतिभिर्यविष्ठम् । य इन्वति द्रविणानि प्रचेता विश्ववाराणि पुरुवारो अध्रुक् ॥

I call to you the youthful Son of Force, the one whose word does not betray, the youngest, approached by our thought. He, the wide-awake knower, impels the riches—treasures of every delight—abundant in gifts and unerring in his working.

Mantra 2

त्वे वसूनि पुर्वणीक होतर्दोषा वस्तोरेरिरे यज्ञियासः । क्षामेव विश्वा भुवनानि यस्मिन्त्सं सौभगानि दधिरे पावके ॥

In you, O many-faced Hotar, the riches are set in motion—by night and by dawn the powers of sacrifice arise toward you. As in a dwelling, in you all the worlds are held together; in the Purifier the felicities are gathered and established.

Mantra 3

त्वं विक्षु प्रदिवः सीद आसु क्रत्वा रथीरभवो वार्याणाम् । अत इनोषि विधते चिकित्वो व्यानुषग्जातवेदो वसूनि ॥

You take your seat among the peoples, O one who comes from the luminous heights; by your will you become the charioteer of the desirable boons. Therefore you drive forward the riches for the one who serves—O conscious Knower, Jātavedas—distributing them in due succession.

Mantra 4

यो नः सनुत्यो अभिदासदग्ने यो अन्तरो मित्रमहो वनुष्यात् । तमजरेभिर्वृषभिस्तव स्वैस्तपा तपिष्ठ तपसा तपस्वान् ॥

Whoever, O Agni, would assail us from afar, or whoever within would undermine the Friend of the great—burn him with your own unfailing bulls, O most burning one; burn him with your burning, you who are full of tapas.

Mantra 5

यस्ते यज्ञेन समिधा य उक्थैरर्केभिः सूनो सहसो ददाशत् । स मर्त्येष्वमृत प्रचेता राया द्युम्नेन श्रवसा वि भाति ॥

Who offers to you with sacrifice and kindling, who gives with hymns and chants, O Son of Force—he, though among mortals, shines as immortal in awakened knowledge, by plenitude, by luminous power, by the soul’s wide hearing.

Mantra 6

स तत्कृधीषितस्तूयमग्ने स्पृधो बाधस्व सहसा सहस्वान् । यच्छस्यसे द्युभिरक्तो वचोभिस्तज्जुषस्व जरितुर्घोषि मन्म ॥

Do then that work, O Agni, swiftly when urged; drive away the rival powers, you who are strong with force. And whatever is proclaimed for you—brightened by days, anointed with words—accept it; make resound the thought of the singer.

Mantra 7

अश्याम तं काममग्ने तवोती अश्याम रयिं रयिवः सुवीरम् । अश्याम वाजमभि वाजयन्तोऽश्याम द्युम्नमजराजरं ते ॥

May we attain that desire, O Agni, by your help; may we attain the plenitude that is rich in heroic powers. May we attain the vāja—pressing forward in the winning of force; may we attain your glory, unaging and ever-unaging.
