Mantras

Mantra 1

O Agni, mighty in force, your gracious face shines near like the Sun. It is seen as a radiant vision even by night; un-diminished, it comes to sight in form as the true nourishment of the being.

Mantra 2

Conquer forth, O Agni, for the singer’s inspired thought; shake the wide space with your vibrant power, O widely-born, as we praise you. Whatever luminous plenitude you win with all the gods—give that to us: a vast and abundant vision-thought.

Mantra 3

From you, O Agni, come the poet’s inspired powers; from you the illumined insights; from you are born the hymns that accomplish. From you comes the wealth of heroic formation—thus to the mortal who offers, you give the right understanding for the work.

Mantra 4

From you is born the bringer of plenitude-force, moving in the wide spaces, a maker of victorious help, whose power is true. From you comes the bliss-giving wealth, impelled by the gods; from you the swift steed of energy, ever pressing forward, O Agni.

Mantra 5

You, O Agni, the seekers of the divine first choose and kindle—you the god, O immortal, with the rapturous tongue of flame. With their thoughts they make you dwell, the repeller of hostility, the lord of the house, unbewildered—guiding the inner home in right order.

Mantra 6

Drive far from us the crookedness of thought, drive far the constriction and the sin, drive far every perverse intention—since thou guardest and restrainest them. In the night be thou our benignant power, O Agni, son of Force; thou whom even the gods approach for the state of well-being.
