Sukta 10.145
Oṣadhi (the plant-power; healing/compelling force)
This short hymn is a practical oṣadhi-sūkta: a charm that invokes a potent plant-power to remove a “sapatnī” (rival/obstructing presence) and to restore attraction, harmony, and rightful union. The speaker ritually “digs up” and applies the herb as a compelling, victory-giving force so that the desired person’s mind turns and runs back—like a cow to her calf—while the rival is sent far away.
Mantra 1
I dig up this healing plant, this most potent growing force—by which one overcomes the rival in consciousness, by which one wins again the lord of the being (the true partner within).
Mantra 2
O Wide-leaf, O fortunate one, impelled by the gods, O mighty force: blow away my rival division; make the lord of my being wholly mine—single and undivided.
Mantra 3
I rise above—above, ever above the others; then the rival who is beneath me becomes beneath even the beneath—cast down in the lower levels of nature.
Mantra 4
I do not even take her name; she finds no delight in this people. Far indeed—into the far beyond—we send the rival division away.
Mantra 5
I am the one who bears and prevails; and thou art the one who overcomes. Becoming both of us mighty in force, let us together carry away my rival division.
Mantra 6
I set upon you the conquering force; I press it upon you with a mightier power. May your mind run forward after me—like a cow to her calf—may it run by the path, as waters run in their channel.
It is a short Vedic charm that uses a powerful herb (oṣadhi) to remove a rival or obstructing influence and to bring back harmony and attraction in a relationship or household.
The main invoked power is Oṣadhi, the living force of medicinal/efficacious plants. The hymn treats the herb itself as a divine instrument through which mantra works.
It is a poetic way to say that attention and affection should naturally return—swiftly and directly—just as a cow runs to her calf and water runs in its channel.
