Mantra 1

तस्मै प्राच्या दिशः

To him belong the quarters of the East.

Mantra 2

वासन्तौ मासौ गोप्तारावकुर्वन् बृहच्च रथंतरं चानुष्ठातारौ

The two spring months they made his guardians; Bṛhat and Rathantara, too, as his two executors of the rite.

वासन्तावेनं मासौ प्राच्या दिशो गोपायतो बृहच्च रथंतरं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद

The two vernal months guard him from the eastern quarter; and Bṛhat and Rathantara stand attendant upon him—whoso thus knoweth.

Mantra 4

तस्मै दक्षिणाया दिशः

For him (is secured) the southern quarter.

ग्रैष्मौ मासौ गोप्तारावकुर्वन् यज्ञायज्ञियं च वामदेव्यं चानुष्ठातारौ

The two summer months they made guardians—Yajñāyajñiya and Vāmadevya, the two that carry the rite through.

ग्रैष्मावेनं मासौ दक्षिणाया दिशो गोपायतो यज्ञायज्ञियं च वामदेव्यं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद

वार्षिकावेनं मासौ प्रतीच्या दिशो गोपायतो वैरूपं च वैराजं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद

The two rainy-season months, from the western quarter, guard this man—Vairūpa and Vairāja stand attendant upon him—whoso thus knoweth.

तस्मा उदीच्या दिशः

For him are the northern quarters (made favorable/protective).

शारदौ मासौ गोप्तारावकुर्वंछ्यैतं च नौधसं चानुष्ठातारौ

The two months of Autumn appointed as guardians Śyaita and Naudhasa, as the two executors of the rite.

शारदावेनं मासावुदीच्या दिशो गोपायतः श्यैतं च नौधसं चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद

The two autumn months, from the northern quarter, guard this man—Śyaita and Naudhasa stand attendant upon him—whoso thus knoweth.

तस्मै ध्रुवाया दिशः

To him belong the Quarters of the steadfast (fixed) Region.

हैमनौ मासौ गोप्तारावकुर्वन् भूमिं चाग्निं चानुष्ठातारौ

The two Haimanā months they appointed as Guardians, as Executors of Earth and of Agni (Fire).

हैमनावेनं मासौ ध्रुवाया दिशो गोपायतो भूमिश्चाग्निश्चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद

The two Haimanā months—yea, they guard for him the Quarters of the steadfast Region; and Earth and Agni stand attendant upon him—who thus hath knowledge.

तस्मा ऊर्ध्वाया दिशः

To him belong the Quarters of the Upward Region.

शैशिरौ मासौ गोप्तारावकुर्वन् दिवं चादित्यं चानुष्ठातारौ

The two Śaiśira months they appointed as Guardians, as Executors of Heaven and of Āditya (the Sun).

शैशिरावेनं मासावूर्ध्वाया दिशो गोपायतो द्यौश्चादित्यश्चानु तिष्ठतो य एवं वेद
