Sukta 119

Rishi: RV-derived; per RV source-hymn attribution for the parallel of AV 20.119.

Devata: Indra

Chandas: RV meter (likely Triṣṭubh); confirm via RV parallel.

Frequently Asked Questions

It aims at paustika results—expanding wealth and strength—by praising Indra with an authoritative ‘ancient’ brahman whose power is compared to clouds releasing rain.

They signal auspicious efficacy: the hymn is ‘honeyed’ and ‘ghee-dripping,’ and the flowing Soma-drops image represents blessings that increase and move freely when the rite and praise succeed.

Yes. In Atharvanic practice it can be recited as a prosperity prayer with simple purity and a symbolic offering (ghee and a sweet drink), keeping the intention on Indra’s release of abundance and increase of resources.
