Sukta 8.34
आ त्वा ग्रावा वदन्निह सोमी घोषेण यच्छतु । दिवो अमुष्य शासतो दिवं यय दिवावसो ॥
ā́ tvā grā́vā vádann ihá somī́ ghóṣeṇa yacchatu | divó amúṣya śā́sato dívaṃ yáya divāvaso ||
Directly Soma-pressing liturgy: the grāvan and ghoṣa accompany the extraction of Soma; mantra invites Indra through the rite’s sound and pressure.
mantric vibration as vehicle of descent, expression of essence (Soma) through pressure (tapas-like concentration)
The refrain requests the ordered heaven (śāsataḥ) to govern the lower mind-sky.
True sound (vāṇī) as effective only when born of essence (Soma) not mere force.
Transformation by extraction of essence: from raw experience to bliss, from bliss to light.
Vedic yoga of inner sacrifice: tapas → soma → indraic illumination.
morning/noon Soma context (traditional)
Pressing=concentration; Soma=delight; sound=nāda; sky=mental field receiving descent.
Use disciplined pressure (attention) to release inner sweetness; then invite clarity to descend.
Maṇipūra (tapas/effort) and Ājñā (illumination)
Bhrāmarī (humming) lightly after chanting to evoke ‘ghoṣa’; then silent listening.
From energized dhāraṇā to nāda-anusandhāna (sound-based inwardness).
Chant 9 times; feel each repetition as a ‘press’; after the last, sit 2–3 minutes hearing the inner resonance; let insight arise without forcing.
Ṛgvedic accentuation with special care on ‘grāvā’ and ‘ghoṣeṇa’; keep refrain consistent each repetition. (Exact svara marks not supplied.)
Make ‘grāvā vadan iha’ slightly percussive; let ‘somī ghoṣeṇa’ ring; refrain steady and even.
grāvā: long ā; v cluster in gr-, ghoṣeṇa: gh aspirated; long o; retroflex ṣ, yacchatu: double cch, divāvaso: long ā; v soft
Resonant, ringing; allow a gentle ‘hum’ in the tone.
