होतोवाच तद्वच्च शर्कराधेनुं शृणु राजन् यथार्थतः । अनुलिप्ते महीपृष्ठे कृष्णाजिनकुशोत्तरे ॥ १०३-१ ॥ धेनुं शर्करया राजन् कृत्वा भारचतुष्टयम् । उत्तमा कथ्यते सद्भिश्चतुर्थांशेन वत्सकम् ॥

โหตฤกล่าวว่า: “ฉันนั้นแล โอ้พระราชา จงสดับโดยถูกต้องถึงพิธี ‘ศรฺกรา-เธนุ’ คือโคที่ทำด้วยน้ำตาล เมื่อเตรียมพื้นดินให้ทาและป้ายเรียบแล้ว ปูหนังละมั่งดำและหญ้ากุศะเป็นชั้นบน จากนั้น โอ้พระราชา จงปั้นโคด้วยน้ำตาลให้มีน้ำหนักรวมสี่ภาระ; บัณฑิตผู้ประเสริฐกล่าวว่า แบบ ‘อุตตมะ’ คือมีลูกโคหนักหนึ่งในสี่ส่วน”

तदर्धं मध्यमा प्रोक्ता कनिष्ठा भारकेण तु । तद्वद्वत्सं प्रकुर्वीत चतुर्थांशेन तत्त्वतः ॥

अथ कुर्यादष्टशतैरूर्ध्वं नृपतिसत्तम । स्वशक्त्या कारयेद् धेनुं तथात्मानं पीडयेत् ॥

แล้วแต่จากนั้น ข้าแต่มหากษัตริย์ผู้ประเสริฐ อาจกระทำด้วยจำนวนแปดร้อยหรือยิ่งกว่านั้นได้ ตามกำลังของตนพึงให้จัดทำ “ธเณุ” (โคสำหรับทาน) และด้วยประการนั้นอย่าได้ฝืนทรมานตนเอง

सर्वबीजानि संस्थाप्य चतुर्दिक्षु समन्ततः । सुवर्णस्य मुखं शृङ्गे मौक्तिकैर्नयने तथा ॥

เมื่อจัดวางเมล็ดพันธุ์ทุกชนิดไว้โดยรอบในทั้งสี่ทิศแล้ว (พึง)ทำปากเป็นทองคำ และทำเขาและดวงตาเช่นกันด้วยไข่มุก

गुडेन तु मुखं काये जिह्वा पिष्टमयी तथा । कम्बलं पट्टसूत्रेण कण्ठाभरणभूषिताम् ॥

และด้วยน้ำตาลอ้อยก้อน (กูฑะ) พึงทำปากไว้บนกาย; ลิ้นก็ทำด้วยแป้งนวดเช่นกัน จัดผ้าห่มด้วยด้ายไหม และประดับด้วยเครื่องประดับที่ลำคอ

इक्षुपादां रौप्यखुरां तवनीतस्तनीं तथा । प्रशस्तपत्रश्रवणां सितचामरपभूषिताम् ॥

(พึงทำธเณุนั้น) ให้มีขาเป็นลำอ้อย มีกีบเป็นเงิน และมีเต้านมเป็นเนย มีหูงามดุจใบไม้ และประดับด้วยพัดหางจามรีสีขาว

पञ्चरत्नसमायुक्तां वस्त्रेणाच्छादितां तथा । गन्धपुष्पैरलङ्कृत्य ब्राह्मणाय निवेदयेत् ॥

เมื่อจัดให้พร้อมด้วยรัตนะทั้งห้า และคลุมด้วยผ้า แล้วประดับด้วยเครื่องหอมและดอกไม้ พึงน้อมถวายแก่พราหมณ์

श्रोत्रियाय दरिद्राय साधुवृत्ताय धीमते । वेदवेदाङ्गविदुषे साग्निकाय कुटुम्बिने । अदुष्टाय प्रदातव्या न तु मत्सरिणे द्विजे ॥

ทานนี้พึงมอบแก่ศฺโรตริยะ (คฤหัสถ์ผู้ศึกษาพระเวท) ผู้ยากไร้ ประพฤติดี มีปัญญา รู้พระเวทและเวทางคะ รักษาไฟบูชา และอุปถัมภ์ครอบครัว พึงให้แก่พราหมณ์ผู้ไม่มุ่งร้าย ไม่พึงให้แก่ทวิชผู้ริษยา

अयने विषुवे पुण्ये व्यतीपाते दिनक्षये । एषु पुण्येषु कालेषु तथाविभवशक्तितः ॥

ในกาลอายนะ (อุตตรายณะ–ทักษิณายณะ) ในกาลวิษุวะ (วันเสมอ) ในวาระวฺยตีปาตอันเป็นมงคล และในยามสิ้นวัน—ในกาลอันเป็นบุญเหล่านี้ พึงให้ทานตามทรัพย์และกำลังของตน

सत्पात्रञ्च द्विजं दृष्ट्वा आगतं श्रोत्रियं गृहे । तादृशाय प्रदातव्या पुच्छदेशे विमृश्य च ॥

ครั้นเห็นทวิชผู้เป็นสัตปาตระ คือศฺโรตริยะ มาถึงเรือน พึงให้ทานแก่ผู้นั้น โดยพิจารณาและสัมผัสบริเวณหางโคตามที่บัญญัติไว้

पूर्वाभिमुखमास्थाय अथवा स उदङ्मुखः । गां पूर्वाभिमुखीं कृत्वा वत्समुत्तरतो न्यसेत् ॥

ให้หันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออก หรือมิฉะนั้นหันไปทางทิศเหนือ แล้วจัดให้โคหันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออก จากนั้นวางลูกโคไว้ทางด้านทิศเหนือของมัน

दानकाले तु ये मन्त्रास्तान्पठित्वा समर्पयेत् । सम्पूज्य विधिवद्विप्रं मुद्रिकाकर्णभूषणैः ॥

ครั้นถึงกาลให้ทาน พึงสวดมนต์ที่กำหนดแล้วจึงมอบทานนั้น และเมื่อบูชาพราหมณ์ตามพิธีแล้ว พึงถวายแหวนและเครื่องประดับหูด้วย

स्वशक्त्या दक्षिणा देया वित्तशाठ्यविवर्ज्जितः । हस्ते तु दक्षिणां दत्त्वा गन्धपुष्पसचन्दनाम् । धेनुं समर्पयेत्तस्य मुखञ्च च विलोकयेत् ॥

พึงถวายทักษิณาตามกำลัง โดยปราศจากความตระหนี่ในทรัพย์ ครั้นวางทักษิณาไว้ในมือของท่าน พร้อมด้วยเครื่องหอม ดอกไม้ และจันทน์แล้ว พึงถวายโค และแล้วจึงแลดูพระพักตร์ของท่าน
