Sukta 5.31

Rishi

Atri Bhauma (Ātreya) (traditional for RV 5.31)

Devata

Indra

Chandas

Aproxima-te e une-te a nós.

Frequently Asked Questions

It praises Indra as the leader who clears the way, defeats obstructing and hostile powers (like Ahi/Vṛtra and Śuṣṇa), and protects and strengthens his worshippers.

These are classic symbols of obstruction and deceptive hostile power. By recalling Indra’s victories over them, the hymn asks for the same obstacle-removing force in the worshipper’s life.

Ojas is vital strength or energetic power. The hymn asks Indra to establish this strength in the people who are devoted to him, along with protection from harm.
