Sukta 9.19
Ascribed generally in RV 9 (Pavamāna Maṇḍala) to Soma-pavamāna seers; specific attribution for 9.19 varies by tradition (often treated as Soma hymns of the Pavamanas rather than a single fixed r̥ṣi).
Soma Pavamāna (the purifying Soma)
Gāyatrī (3 pādas × 8 syllables; typical for many Soma-pavamāna verses)
Hey Soma, jo bhi chamakdaar khazana hai, aasman ka ya dharti ka, jo gaane layak hai, woh sab laa. Jab tu apne aap ko saaf kare, tab humein de.
Mantra 2
Tum dono, Indra aur Soma, roshni ki duniya ke malik ho. Tum dono kirnon ke rakhwale ho. Humein power do, humare dimaag ko chamakao.
Mantra 3
Woh bail jaisa taqatwar hai. Zindagi ki dhaara mein apne aap ko saaf karta hai. Baarish jaisi awaaz karta hai aur puja ke ghaas par baith jaata hai. Woh peela rang ka hai aur yagya ke garbh mein pravesh karta hai.
Mantra 4
Rishiyon ke vichar bail ke beej ke upar goonjte hain. Jaise maa apne naye bacche ka khayal rakhti hai, waise hi yeh shaktiyan us naye prakash ki poshan karti hain.
Mantra 5
Woh saaf karte waqt ek naya jeev paida kare un shaktiyon mein. Yeh shaktiyan woh chamakta hua doodh nikaalti hain. Yeh doodh sabse saaf cheez hai.
Mantra 6
Humein paas se sikhao. Humare dushmanon mein dar bhar do jo humpe charh ke aaye hain. Hey Pavamana, humare liye poora sukh aur sampatti laao.
Mantra 7
Hey Soma, dushman ki taakat tod do. Uski zor bhi tod do, uski chaal bhi tod do. Woh door ho ya paas, farak nahi padta.
It asks Soma, while he is being purified, to bring bright treasures (both heavenly and earthly) and to protect the worshippers by reducing hostile forces.
In the Soma ritual, the expressed juice is strained through a filter (often wool). The hymn poetically treats this as a sacred refining that makes Soma radiant, powerful, and fit to be offered.
They are nurturing powers associated with the rite—often understood as the waters, the filtering elements, or supportive divine forces that foster the newly clarified Soma and the light/strength it symbolizes.
