Sukta 84

Mantra 1

आ वां राजानावध्वरे ववृत्यां हव्येभिरिन्द्रावरुणा नमोभिः । प्र वां घृताची बाह्वोर्दधाना परि त्मना विषुरूपा जिगाति ॥

I turn you two kings toward the sacrifice, O Indra and Varuṇa, with offerings and acts of reverence. The ghee-bright impulse, taking its place in your arms, moves around of itself in many forms, bringing the oblation to its destined reach.

Mantra 2

युवो राष्ट्रं बृहदिन्वति द्यौर्यौ सेतृभिररज्जुभिः सिनीथः । परि नो हेळो वरुणस्य वृज्या उरुं न इन्द्रः कृणवदु लोकम् ॥

Your wide kingdom is set in motion by Heaven itself, you who bind with spanning cords and bridges. Remove from around us the pressure of Varuṇa’s wrath; may Indra make for us a broad space to dwell in.

Mantra 3

कृतं नो यज्ञं विदथेषु चारुं कृतं ब्रह्माणि सूरिषु प्रशस्ता । उपो रयिर्देवजूतो न एतु प्र णः स्पार्हाभिरूतिभिस्तिरेतम् ॥

Made beautiful is our sacrifice in the gatherings; made effective are the mantric formations, praised among the illumined. May the wealth of being, driven by the gods, come near to us; carry us beyond with desirable helps and protections.

Mantra 4

अस्मे इन्द्रावरुणा विश्ववारं रयिं धत्तं वसुमन्तं पुरुक्षुम् । प्र य आदित्यो अनृता मिनात्यमिता शूरो दयते वसूनि ॥

In us, O Indra and Varuṇa, place the wealth that holds all desirable things—rich in substance and abundant in powers. For the Aditya, the immeasurable hero, diminishes the falsehoods and distributes the true riches of being.

Mantra 5

इयमिन्द्रं वरुणमष्ट मे गीः प्रावत्तोके तनये तूतुजाना । सुरत्नासो देववीतिं गमेम यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

This my song has reached Indra and Varuṇa; it has advanced, urging on our lineage and child-soul. May we, rich in true treasures, go to the gods’ finding and enjoyment; do you guard us always with states of well-being.
