Sukta 65

Mantra 1

प्रति वां सूर उदिते सूक्तैर्मित्रं हुवे वरुणं पूतदक्षम् । ययोरसुर्यमक्षितं ज्येष्ठं विश्वस्य यामन्नाचिता जिगत्नु ॥

At the sun’s uprising, with well-fashioned utterances I call you—Mitra and Varuṇa of purified will. You whose sovereign power, unperishing and eldest, moves through every course of the world, wide in awareness, arriving to us.

Mantra 2

ता हि देवानामसुरा तावर्या ता नः क्षितीः करतमूर्जयन्तीः । अश्याम मित्रावरुणा वयं वां द्यावा च यत्र पीपयन्नहा च ॥

For you two are the sovereign powers among the gods, you two are the noble ones; make for us the abodes that grow in energy. May we attain you, O Mitra and Varuṇa, there where Heaven and the Days nurture and increase.

Mantra 3

ता भूरिपाशावनृतस्य सेतू दुरत्येतू रिपवे मर्त्याय । ऋतस्य मित्रावरुणा पथा वामपो न नावा दुरिता तरेम ॥

You two, rich in binding powers, are a bridge against falsehood—hard to pass for the hostile mortal. By your path of ṛta, O Mitra and Varuṇa, may we cross over our difficulties as across waters by a boat.

Mantra 4

आ नो मित्रावरुणा हव्यजुष्टिं घृतैर्गव्यूतिमुक्षतमिळाभिः । प्रति वामत्र वरमा जनाय पृणीतमुद्नो दिव्यस्य चारोः ॥

Come to us, O Mitra and Varuṇa, accepting the offering; with the clarified richness and with the streams of inspiration, pour out the wide pasture. Here, in response, fill for the people the choicest boon—from the sweet, heavenly wellspring.

Mantra 5

एष स्तोमो वरुण मित्र तुभ्यं सोमः शुक्रो न वायवेऽयामि । अविष्टं धियो जिगृतं पुरंधीर्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

This hymn of affirmation I offer to you, O Varuṇa and Mitra—like a bright Soma brought for Vāyu I bear it forward. Take up our thoughts toward the desired fulfilment, O powers of plenitude; protect us always with well-being.
