Sukta 70

Mantra 1

घृतवती भुवनानामभिश्रियोर्वी पृथ्वी मधुदुघे सुपेशसा । द्यावापृथिवी वरुणस्य धर्मणा विष्कभिते अजरे भूरिरेतसा ॥

Full of the clarified light, bearing the splendour of the worlds, the wide Earth and the honey-yielding, fair-formed pair—Heaven and Earth—stand upheld by Varuna’s law; unaging, they are propped apart, rich in creative seed-force.

Mantra 2

असश्चन्ती भूरिधारे पयस्वती घृतं दुहाते सुकृते शुचिव्रते । राजन्ती अस्य भुवनस्य रोदसी अस्मे रेतः सिञ्चतं यन्मनुर्हितम् ॥

Unfailing, bearing abundant streams, rich in the milk of nourishment, the two (Heaven and Earth) milk out the clarified radiance for the well-doer, for the one of pure vow. Shining over this world, O two firmaments, pour into us that seed of power which Manu has set for the human path.

Mantra 4

घृतेन द्यावापृथिवी अभीवृते घृतश्रिया घृतपृचा घृतावृधा । उर्वी पृथ्वी होतृवूर्ये पुरोहिते ते इद्विप्रा ईळते सुम्नमिष्टये ॥

With ghṛta the Heaven and Earth are wrapped about—splendid with ghṛta, filled with ghṛta, increased by ghṛta. The wide Earth, set in front as the priestly power for the offering, is invoked by the seers: they call for the grace that fulfils the sacrifice.

Mantra 5

मधु नो द्यावापृथिवी मिमिक्षतां मधुश्चुता मधुदुघे मधुव्रते । दधाने यज्ञं द्रविणं च देवता महि श्रवो वाजमस्मे सुवीर्यम् ॥

May Heaven and Earth blend for us the sweetness—dripping sweetness, milking sweetness, faithful to the law of sweetness. Upholding the sacrifice and the divine riches, grant to us vast fame, plenitude of force, and a heroic power that grows within.

Mantra 6

ऊर्जं नो द्यौश्च पृथिवी च पिन्वतां पिता माता विश्वविदा सुदंससा । संरराणे रोदसी विश्वशम्भुवा सनिं वाजं रयिमस्मे समिन्वताम् ॥

May Heaven and Earth increase in us the sustaining energy: Father and Mother, all-knowing and of good works. Harmoniously joined, the two worlds, universal benefactors, may they together press into us attainment, plenitude of force, and the riches of fullness of being.
