Sukta 38

Mantra 1

उरोष्ट इन्द्र राधसो विभ्वी रातिः शतक्रतो । अधा नो विश्वचर्षणे द्युम्ना सुक्षत्र मंहय ॥

Wide indeed, O Indra, is your abundance; all-pervading is your giving, O doer of a hundred powers. Then for us, O knower of all human kinds, O good-ruler, increase the luminous strengths.

Mantra 2

यदीमिन्द्र श्रवाय्यमिषं शविष्ठ दधिषे । पप्रथे दीर्घश्रुत्तमं हिरण्यवर्ण दुष्टरम् ॥

When, O Indra, most mighty, you set in place the force that is worthy to be heard, you spread out into the farthest and longest hearing—golden in hue, hard to cross for the hostile powers.

Mantra 3

शुष्मासो ये ते अद्रिवो मेहना केतसापः । उभा देवावभिष्टये दिवश्च ग्मश्च राजथः ॥

Those powers of force that are yours, O lord of the stone, that pour and seize by the conscious sign—by them you, the two gods, rule for our help both heaven and the marching earth-field.

Mantra 4

उतो नो अस्य कस्य चिद्दक्षस्य तव वृत्रहन् । अस्मभ्यं नृम्णमा भरास्मभ्यं नृमणस्यसे ॥

And even of whatever effective power (dakṣa) is thine, O Vṛtra-slayer, bring to us the human plenitude of force (nṛmṇa); for us thou art he who thinks and wills the hero-soul (nṛ) into fullness.

Mantra 5

नू त आभिरभिष्टिभिस्तव शर्मञ्छतक्रतो । इन्द्र स्याम सुगोपाः शूर स्याम सुगोपाः ॥

Now, by these thy succouring helps, in thy shelter, O hundred-powered one, may we be well-guarded; O Indra, O hero, may we be well-guarded—protected in the luminous keeping of thy force.
