Sukta 50

Mantra 1

इन्द्रः स्वाहा पिबतु यस्य सोम आगत्या तुम्रो वृषभो मरुत्वान् । ओरुव्यचाः पृणतामेभिरन्नैरास्य हविस्तन्वः काममृध्याः ॥

Indra—svāhā—let him drink the Soma whose call he answers, coming as the impetuous bull with the Maruts. Wide-pervading, let him be filled by these foods (offerings of substance and force); and by this oblation may the soul’s desire be fulfilled in the body.

Mantra 2

आ ते सपर्यू जवसे युनज्मि ययोरनु प्रदिवः श्रुष्टिमावः । इह त्वा धेयुर्हरयः सुशिप्र पिबा त्वस्य सुषुतस्य चारोः ॥

To you I yoke the two serving powers for speed—those by which you bring the obedience from the far heaven. Here may the tawny steeds set you in place, O fair-lipped one; drink indeed of this well-pressed, delightful Soma.

Mantra 3

गोभिर्मिमिक्षुं दधिरे सुपारमिन्द्रं ज्यैष्ठ्याय धायसे गृणानाः । मन्दानः सोमं पपिवाँ ऋजीषिन्त्समस्मभ्यं पुरुधा गा इषण्य ॥

With rays (cows of light) they have set the well-faring Indra for the highest mastery, praising him to be established. Gladdened, having drunk the Soma, O wielder of the tawny strength, gather for us in fullness the many rays of illumination.

Mantra 4

इमं कामं मन्दया गोभिरश्वैश्चन्द्रवता राधसा पप्रथश्च । स्वर्यवो मतिभिस्तुभ्यं विप्रा इन्द्राय वाहः कुशिकासो अक्रन् ॥

Gladden this aim of ours with rays and steeds, and with luminous abundance expand it. Seeking the Sun-world, the inspired seers, with their thoughts, have fashioned for you the vehicle—Kuśikas have made the carrying-force for Indra.

Mantra 5

शुनं हुवेम मघवानमिन्द्रमस्मिन्भरे नृतमं वाजसातौ । शृण्वन्तमुग्रमूतये समत्सु घ्नन्तं वृत्राणि संजितं धनानाम् ॥

For our well-being we call the bounteous Indra, the most heroic in this pressing struggle, in the winning of plenitude. May we have him who listens, the fierce helper in the battles—slaying the obstructions and fully conquering the treasures of being.
